John King has joined Juan Williams as Newt Gingrich road kill. They have both been taught a harsh lesson: Newt Gingrich will not play the “gotcha question” game and he will turn such questions into smack downs of those who insist upon asking them.
In just over 2 minutes Gingrich took King’s opening question about the charges being made by his former wife and flattened the pride of CNN to the delight of hundreds in a South Carolina auditorium and millions across the country.
Newt’s smack down had us banging our fists and saying “Finally! Finally somebody is punching back!”
John King failed miserably in his attempt to destroy Newt Gingrich and put Mitt Romney, his preferred candidate, back on track.
When King opened his questioning of the former Speaker with his “gotcha” question about Gingrich’s marital problems, it was King who was “gotten.”
Blinded by a perceived opportunity to make Gingrich look bad, and create the media’s new John McCain, the salivating King threw aside all pretense of honesty. Nevertheless, his headlong bayonet charge at a man he thought he would catch as unprepared defensive and easy prey, ended abruptly when he ran into a well place straight right to his jaw.
Ashe listened to the roaring standing “O” behind him, the dazed look on King’s face was priceless.
This brief exchange perfectly underscored the chasm between the media and America.
The media don’t really share America’s values. They may have been born and live here, but for them writing about America outside of its edges is like covering a foreign country.
King might have learned his lesson by watching Gingrich destroy Fox’s Juan Williams Tuesday night when he tried to use the media’s shopworn “Republicans are racists” card.
But of course that isn’t possible. The media hate Republicans...

It’s not just that Newt is smart in the academic sense but he also knows how to fight back.
They keep trying this gotcha crap and he keeps handing them their heads.
Newt is as gentle as a kitty cat... unless you poke him with a stick.

Anyone, who thinks Newt’s smackdown had any effect on the whores of the media, is sadly mistaken.

Don’t care how it effected them, it sure me and most of America feel really, really good. That’s all that matters.
Plus, it probably gained Newt an untold number of new voters.
The effect on the media is irrelevant. The effect on the conservative voters of South Carolina is what matters, and with them, Newt scored big.
This is the open secret of his appeal. We sense that Gingrich is two steps ahead of the liberals and knows exactly where they’re coming from at all times. And, what’s more, he’s ready to refute them and refuses to accept their premises. That’s gold.

Obama will never show for a debate with Newt, but the effect of Newt constantly challenging him to one will be about the same as losing to Newt in a debate. Obama will be damned if he do and damned if he don’t. That is exactly where we need him to be.

I'm thinking that this is Newt's time. In the 2008 an unknown Obama lied and BSed his way through the campaign using an uplifting but empty promise of “Hope and Change”. The worshipful media helped him hide just what he meant by change.
We now know what this guys is all about and in the 2012 Obama is going to revert to his previous mode as a mean, nasty and divisive campaigner who uses lies , smears and dirty tricks to win.
The McCain / Romney non confrontational and respectful “High Road” is not going to be a winning strategy for this election. Newt is like Sara Palin in that he seems to have an innate talent for dealing with the Obama media and it's smears and lies and turning these dirty tricks against them.
Newt has a few negatives for sure, but this ability to stand up to the lies smear and dirty tricks of the Obama campaign and it's surrogates in the media is going to be vital in what promises to be the meanest and dirtiest campaign in modern history.
