DeKalb County, GA - On Tuesday night, a DeKalb County police officer went to a family's home on Silva Court in response to a domestic dispute call.
When the officer went into the family's garage, he encountered a German shepherd who was on a chain.
Upon seeing a stranger approach, the German shepherd lunged - the officer's response was to shoot and kill the dog.
Tragically, after the damage was done, it was discovered that the responding police officer had actually gone to the wrong house.
Right now, the officer is not facing any charges - there will be an internal investigation.

Curries husband, Anthony, told Channel 2 that the officer also pointed his gun at him and told him to put his hands up.
I said, Why [did] you shoot my dog? And he said, Well, Ill blow your brains out, Anthony Currie said.
Nice. Threatening to murder a lawabiding citizen. Really nice.

Anyone harming one of our dogs in a similar situation is a dead person walking. The only questions will be when, where, and how. The only way I might, and I do stress might, make an exception is if the cop involved met me at the police range with his or her family dog on a leash so I could shoot it dead in front of his or her entire family.
Barring that, nothing on this planet short of my death could stop me. And don't even get me started on how Mrs. L would react...
Hey, how was he supposed to know this wasn't the only dog in the world with opposable thumbs? It could happen.
There is no defense for an officer intruding on private property and shooting a law abiding homeowner’s dog.
None.
The fool is the officer who intruded on private property.
HE wasn’t even on the right side of the street!
The officer and his command structure need to be held personally responsible.
How is that not actionable? Sounds like hate speech.
“So far, 99% of the visitors have had the sense to not enter the dog space.”
While the other 1% saved you money on dog chow? :-)
Shoot, feed, shovel (the poop)?
Right now, the officer is not facing any charges - there will be an internal investigation.
The dog was CHAINED and the cop SHOT HIM?
He should loose his job and forced to pay compensation to the owners.
Bastard.
I’m glad that the other deputies and county sheriffs were willing to testify that he did mock rape you.
It’s absolutely criminal that he was permitted to keep his job after doing that to a law abiding citizen.
LOL!
Smart dog.
To avoid being poisoned, Odin’s been taught *not* to take anything from strangers unless I okay it first.
Every time the PetSmart or PetCo cashiers offer him a cookie from the checkout treat bins, he looks at it like it’s a bomb....;D
The only time he ever growled at store employee was a kid who “said he had a special connection with dogs”.
The guy kept trying to force Odin to accept a cookie from him and make him “sit”.
Just wouldn’t let the dog be and the dog finally got tired of politely backing up and away.
Finally, I gave the guy a biscuit from -Odin’s- treat bag, told Odin it was okay to listen to the kid and he immediately sat, gave both paws and downed for him.
[”special connection”..LOL]
He hasn’t got much use for delivery personnel but my [recently deceased] rabbit, Psycho Bunny loved it when the UPS guy came.
He’d bring her carrots and skritch her head.
:)
Wow. I’ve never met anyone with a “snake room” before. :)
Further, the cop could have just gone to the front door. Two-care garage on a newer brick front home from the news video I've seen. Why he tried entering the garage is a bit of a head scratcher. House was also clearly marked on the mailbox out front, so the whole "wrong address from improperly marked house" won't fly either.
This cop effed up. Big time. No two ways around it.
LOL...not quite.
The 1% idiot -finally- understood *why* there were numerous signs, both on the gate and the house.
He had a bad habit of coming in and leaving my gate hanging open.
The “object lesson dog encounter of the toothy kind” came after he’d made a joke to my hubby that I’d told him if any of my dogs got so much as a scratch on them because he’d left the gate open again, I’d shoot him dead, right on the spot.
He stopped laughing when hubby said “She’s not kidding.”
He became one of the most conscientious gate-shutters in the world, after that.
[plus, hubby then put a car hood spring on the gate that automatically slams it shut so hard and fast you’d better make sure you’re ~really~ hustling when you go through or it’ll literally swat you into the yard]
:D
THAT's exactly my problem with the local cops. They are more than happy to just "bust" into my backyard w/o knocking, without a warrant and without exigent circumstances. They are welcome to approach the front door, but THAT's IT.
“frakking retractable leashes”
Most dangerous, worthless device ever created for dogs.
I’ve read stories of dogs darting into the street and getting hit by a car while on those craptastic things.
Good 6 foot Amish made leather training lead...can’t be beat.
Leerburg sells an excellent lead and they’re -great-.
That thing will last me the rest of my life.
I love the way you think.
[but I couldn’t shoot the idiot’s ~dog~ for revenge...the dog did nothing wrong]
“A DeKalb police supervisor sent to the scene said the officer made an error.
Subsequent investigation determined that the actual address that he was looking for was actually across the street, DeKalb police Lt. Dane Cunningham told Channel 2.
The officer is not facing disciplinary action pending an internal investigation, Channel 2 said.”
