Keep in mind that this is the vicious and oppressive Talaban.
A group that routinely tortured gays and oppress women and genitally mutilated 1000s of girls.
Don’t mean to excuse what the soldiers did, since it is not gallant to desecrate bodies of war dead.
But, if your buddy was killed by these inhuman Talaban oppressors, you might be tempted to act viciously in response too.
I think the author put this incident into its correct perspective. Our guys are being killed in the war against the Taliban. No one yet knows whether these guys just watched some of their brothers get blown apart by the very guys they pissed on.
Even if they didn't lose any on that particular day, it's a sure bet that they lost comrades to the enemy on previous days. And, sometimes in the most brutal, barbarian ways.
I refuse to condemn them for what they did. Islamic jihadists have done much worse to the bodies of dead Americans.

Exactly. Some pundit or other said such things as our soldiers pissing on taliban dead would “provoke a response”. I wondered at the time, given the savage God-less nature of the Taliban, if our soldier THEMSELVES were not “provked” andtthat this was the “response” No one seems to have looked into this.
