1975: last year of Dodge Dart production prior to replacement by the ill-fated Dodge Aspen |
Is that what they’re passing off as a Dodge Dart these days? Are they serious? That’s not a Dodge Dart, at all. My first car was a 1970 Plymouth Scamp - the Plymouth version of the Dart - with the slant 6 (one of the best blocks ever built) and I can truthfully say that I know Dodge Darts and this is not a Dodge Dart.
Bingo!
One of the great semi-sleepers of its day. It was not an easy car for John Q. to shove big tires under at the time when everyone seemed to feel the need to do just that. The Dart and the 383 are still (unfairly) generally under-appreciated, which is a shame.

Personally, the old Dodge Dart made me think Ford Fairlane with a better power train and suspension. The new Dart makes me think Ho Hum. I assume there is Italian styling somewhere on the exterior of the otherwise ordinary looking car. (Honestly, would it even catch your eye if it wasn’t fire engine red?)
For a modern car design with some retro hints I like the Chrysler 300.
However appealing (or unappealing) the new Dart’s design is, there is no disguising the rundown state of the streets it was presumably photographed on - Detroit.
How mighty are (were) the fallen.
My parents had a ‘73 Dart Swinger, with the slant 6, an AM radio, and nothing else. It was puke green with a cute little flower sticker on the side. I never had the displeasure of driving it, but it was awful to ride in, and it must have been even worse to drive.
Resurrecting the Dart makes as much sense as Ford reintroducing the Edsel.
Looks like a Kia to me.
No dash mounted push button auto-trans gear selector?!? “Dart” in name only...a “DINO”!
My 1969 four door had the slant six. Nothing but reliable. Just like my 69 Camaro coupe. God I miss those cars....

Looks like a EuroFord
I owned a 73 Dart. Worst pile of sheet metal I’ve ever owned. I seem to remember that the first year and a half was OK and after that it was in the shop every 8 to 10 weeks. It was only 5 years old when the driver side wheel just fell off while pulling out of the driveway; ball joint failure. That car was nothing but a money pit that I could never take on long trips for fear of it breaking down. We replaced it with a New Yorker.
Will the push button transmission come back ?
Concerning the AMC Gremlin, I was thinking about that car the other day especailly the era we are in. We have a Jimmy Carter in the W.H. , gas prices are rising and some people are demanding a return of the 55 mph speed limit.
Forgot the other AMC car that looks more like a bubble. Have to see a redo on that car !
I used to know a guy who dragged raced and old dodge dart with a 340 and a push button transmission. He had ‘Mr. Buttons’ painted on the side of it.
My dad had the Dart hauled away when a relative passed and her Toyota became available.
Ah, the AMC Pacer. I knew a guy that had one of them. It was strange looking, but was a pretty decent car otherwise.
My Grandma had a 1973 Dart with a small-block 318cid V-8 and a three-on-the-tree manual transmission. It would catch rubber in each gear, at least when I drove it. :)
