“I DO think there’s a ‘squatch in these woods….”

What the heck has happened to science on television? Animal Planet has a show called “Finding Bigfoot,” with a guy looking like he just cleaned out all the pork rinds at the Piggly Wiggly telling us he believes “there’s a “squatch” in these woods….”

“Sasquatches DO exist,” insists another sasquatch hunter, doing his best to look and sound serious, in the show’s accidentally comical commercial.

We shouldn’t single out Animal Planet for scorn, however. The channel does have silly company. The History Channel has a show called UFO Hunters. Planet Green has a show called UFOs over Earth. These and other channels show Nostradamus programs more regularly than they show microscopes and telescopes combined.

Against this backdrop, I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised by incessantly ridiculous claims and headlines about global warming.

Global warming causes earthquakes. Global warming causes depression. Global warming causes tsunamis. Global warming causes wife beatings. Global warming causes acne. Global warming causes AIDS. Global warming causes a greater likelihood of a UFO invasion.

No, seriously, scientist-activists and their media allies have alleged each of the above, and then some.

Just as microscopes and telescopes are glaringly missing on the “science” and “history” shows about sasquatches and UFOs, so too is the Scientific Method glaringly missing from alarming global warming claims.

I wonder. I don't know whether or not bigfoot exists, but whatchayall going to do if bigfoots are found to be real, Hmmmmm? You are all going to look like a bunch of fools. Seems to me that you guys are the flat earth society. And the people you call fools are going to sit around on their front porches sippin' moonshine and chawin' and laughing at you. I'm afraid at that point, I'd have to join them. Just as I laugh at the Catholic church for once believing that the earth is the geometrical center of the universe.

I don't know. I suppose there could be a Bigfoot. In fact, who knows what's really out there in those dark woods at night. My problem is that whether it's Monsterquest, Finding Bigfoot, or whatever, they never actually find the monster. It's just a big tease you quickly tire of. The only exception I can recall is when they were searching for the colossal squid; by the end of the half hour, they did find it after all.

In amongst all the huffing and puffing, you actually see some pretty neat old stuff on Pawn Stars, for example, a demonstration of a functional mid-19th century Gatling gun.

Remember... these guys are not are not scientists, they are just posing as scientists. The only one that is a degreed scientist is the chick (Ranae Holland), who has a B.S. in biology (aquatics and fishery). And she is the token skeptic. Moneymaker has a questionable rep (at best) in the community, and obviously has much to gain by not ever finding one.

None are anthropologists or zoologists, with real training in this field. I believe it used to be termed being a dilettante...

Even people that seriously believe in Bigfoot think the Finding Bigfoot show and the BFRO crew are a joke and an embarrassment. And living in Western Washington I know several believers who have said as much. I’ve talked to Matt Moneymaker, the (“there’s a squatch in these woods” guy), and I can say he was named well. And he is as much of an ass in person as he is on the show.

I’m watching re-runs. But I don’t see why the host coming out of the closet would cause the show to be cancelled. All those reality shows burn out pretty quickly. The latest one is about shipping. Not ships. Not trains. Not even 18 wheelers. Most little vans and horse trailers. ha!

Dr. Terrence Mysin of “The Institute”, located in Zurich, has extensively studied the disappearance of people in the Pacific Northwest. He has cautiously concluded that one cannot completely rule out the possibility of Bigfoot kidnapping woodsman and keeping them as love slaves.

Dr. Mysin has also published an article on the characteristics of those who have been sexually assaulted by Bigfoot. One symptom of what he calls the Post Bigfoot Rape Disorder (P.B.R.D.) is the tendency of the victim every few minutes to turn their head from right to left and uttering "there's a Squatch in these woods." This occurs among the sufferers even when they are in an urban environment. Sad!
