Who is to blame? A lot, maybe most, of the parents who send their kids to these Catholic schools are died-in-the wool Democrats who'd rather have a toenail ripped out than vote Republican, as are a lot, maybe most, of the teachers at these places. They cannot even begin to get their minds around the fact that their party is the puppet of the PSEA, the union that represents most Pennsylvania public school teachers (and nurses and librarians etc.) and that fights like a rabid badger for every penny of the education budget regardless of who it hurts.

Why?
Blame For School Closings Belongs To Catholics
The Philadelphia Archdiocese announced, yesterday, that the 49 of its schools will be shut forever come June.
The schools are Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast high schools in Upper Darby, and elementary schools Annunciation BVM in Haverford Township; St. Cyril of Alexandreia in East Lansdowne; Our Lady of Fatima in Secane, Ridley Township; St. Gabriel in Norwood; Holy Savior-St. John Fisher in Lower Chichester; St. Francis de Sales in Aston and St. John Chrysostom in Nether Providence.
Some of their students will go to other Catholic schools. Others will enter the public school system further increasing the tax burden on property owners of those unlucky districts.
Who is to blame? A lot, maybe most, of the parents who send their kids to these Catholic schools are died-in-the wool Democrats who’d rather have a toenail ripped out than vote Republican, as are a lot, maybe most, of the teachers at these places. They cannot even begin to get their minds around the fact that their party is the puppet of the PSEA, the union that represents most Pennsylvania public school teachers (and nurses and librarians etc.) and that fights like a rabid badger for every penny of the education budget regardless of who it hurts.
They cannot even start to fathom that their party is the toy of the trial lawyers who get warm and fuzzy at notion of seeing criminal acts treated as civil torts so their wallets get fatter and who cares if all it does is harm the schools and hospitals and turn the victims into male prostitutes.
Who is to blame? Catholics, look in the mirror.
Philly Catholics = Democrats.
Yup.
Or even waive your school prop taxes since you are not using their services.
Ain't going to happen until the solid alliance between the Democrap party and the Educrat unions are dissolved and/or the Democraps are permanently voted out of power.
The article is right and it is a damn shame. The Catholics have consistently shown they can run a more effective school system than the Educrat unions. And I'm not a Catholic.
Hmmmmm ...
Seems to me that most political opponents of school choice, tuition vouchers, etc. are members of the demonicRat Party.
Seems to me that even by the most charitable estimates, approximately half of self-identified Catholics vote for demonicRat Politicians.
Seems to me that in urban cesspools like Philthadelphia, the rate of voting for demonicRats is much higher than 50%.
Seems to me that even by your logic, these school closings are a self inflicted wound.
I’m missing something here. Leave aside that, as Tip O’Neill said, these folks are born Democrat, then baptized Catholic, when did Catholic schools ever get taxpayer money? At best, they get a tax exemption, but I don’t recall their ever getting money from local, state or federal sources. My memory (of long ago) is that the parochial schools are funded by parishioners, tuition, the diocese, etc. but not the taxpayer?
As to the poor, poor local public school districts that will suddenly have many more students without additional funding, well, those students’ parents have been paying taxes into the districts without any return for all the years their kids were in Catholic school No sympathy there.
Not a voucher - a tax credit. A voucher makes it look like it’s THEIR money.
In the minds of the public school teacher unions that hold the Dems' puppet strings, your fair share is zero. In fact, it should be illegal to send your kids to anything other than a public, union sponsored school.
It’s ignorant to vote for people who refuse to recognize that a family should have to pay only once for education. If they are doing theirs privately and paying privately, then they shouldn’t be paying elsewhere.
It would be like switching to bicycle and being forced to pay the gasoline tax.
You are missing something. What makes you think that the districts aren't going to get additional funding (new teachers ect.) and where do you think it's going to come from?
The Catholic schools don't do anywhere near the indoctrination that the public schools do. I'd rather see the money go to them. And they are a lot, lot, lot more efficient with it.
You can even be black :-)
That is hilarious.
EXACTLY!
