Some are sanguine about the Mitt Romney's chances of wrapping up the nomination if he wins Iowa and New Hampshire—but Joe Scarborough's prediction in such case was sanguinary.
On Morning Joe today, Scarborough predicted "there will be blood" among conservatives if they see Romney cruising to the nomination.

I just get frustrated sometimes with those who assume that the GOP electorate is FR writ large, when in fact any resemblance is almost coincidental.
There are plenty of people out there who have voted Republican all their life and who will tell any pollster "Yes, I am a conservative" and yet think candidates like McCain and Romney are just fine for our country.
Some who live in the FR echo chamber (not you, OK?) just don't get this and never will and so are continually shocked at the strength of middle of the road candidates.
I like what you said. I somewhat blame Bachmann for poisoning the well for all of them. She started with the really preachy nasty attacks that went overboard. She paid for it with her thrilling 5-6% polling - but I think she dragged Perry and then later Newt off focus - and then Perry and Mitt drug each other off focus - then when Newt soared everybody forgot our problem (psst, his name is OBAMA) and what has gone on in Iowa is awful.
I think they have given Obama a free pass and eaten each other alive - and the two who went after Obama - Cain and Newt - were run off (Cain) and then ganged up on (Newt).
Now they all look pathetic. They are all to blame, but I blame Bachmann more than anyone else.
You have to remember, this was a primary. Conservatives have to get the stage because the media will ignore them at all costs. That hasn’t change much. However the conservatives do get a lot of negative coverage 24/7.
They are supposed to go after each other on their records and such. If they didn’t, it would be no race.
If you are watching right now, they are all going after each other is big ways.
I don’t blame any particular one. I blame us. We are the ones who could have gotten behind a conservative running and built them up and supported them.
Until we do that, we are doomed to end up with a RINO type, or selecting who is the lesser of a RINO.
But with all that, I will support the nominee and work on getting rid of Lugar. I want Mike Pence to win the Governorship here. if I get at least 50% of what I want and 100% rid of Obama, I will take it, and do a lot of praying, of course. LOL

In the long run, we have to hold the growth of entitlement spending below the rate of growth of the economy. I expect we agree about that.
The problem is, entitlement spending is indexed and is on autopilot to increase more rapidly than any sober person believes the economy can grow, even on a best case scenario. "Rosey Scenario" doesn't do the trick; nor do "tax the rich," or "cut defense," or "eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse."
If we don't fix entitlements, runaway spending will drive ever higher taxes, and we will tax ourselves into permanent no/slow growth and permanent high unemployment, which compounds the problem.
So yes, by all means, let's make the country more business friendly. But we still have to fix entitlements. Someone has to tell the great American public, which doesn't want to hear it, that the tooth fairy is broke. There is no way out of that box. That is the political problem.
I do believe we can fix Social Security on a win-win basis. Health care is harder. We simply cannot give everyone a blank check. Either government will ration, or markets will ration. I prefer market rationing with a decent safety net for low income folks. I am not sure a majority of the public can be persuaded to agree, but that's the fight we have to win.
I completely agree with this. She got excited with her early double digit polling and thought she was the 'Tea Party' exclusive candidate. When Perry entered the contest in August and immediately took a commanding lead, with clear Tea Party movement support, she had a snit and temper tantrum and took the nasty attack to an overboard level that continued the rest of the campaign. It is the reason she dropped to her current low level and stayed there. She's completely irrelevant now and even Santorum has gained from her. She should drop out and apologize for her role in taking the primary campaign away from an attack on the 0bama record.
punish a party? LOL Nothing on this Earth will get me to cast a vote for the fraud who is Mitt. The GOP will punish the good citizens of our Republic by pushing arrogant, statist elites upon us.
The entire system is rigged against limited government. In a rational world, there is no way Iowa and the arrogant "folks" in NH would be the driving forces for sidetracking Conservatives.
Never again will I cast a vote for Statists. If our Republic is to be destroyed, let it be by the left, not the girly statists on the right.
Even is we win with a Conservative in 2012 (a miracle) the best thing to happen is to utterly destroy the GOP politically and build a new party.

The fact of the matter is that if Obama, Romney, or even Gingrich wins the election, then the TEA Party has failed.
Period.

Well my post was not a shill to justify supporting Mitt, which seems like you you took it.
We will have to agree to disagree about party. The problem is not the party per se - there are good people and bad people who are part of it. Which, when you get your viginal pure third party, you will find out that guess what - it too will have greedy, power hungry turf protecting inside the beltway types in it - because dammit, that’s who work for political parties.
Remember the last head of Perot’s party? Ed Rollins. It’s not a party problem, its a fallen nature of man problem. Learn it, love it, live it.
Get that well in mind and you can judge the advocates for "moderate", "independent" and Democrat candidates. They are trying to lead you astray.

I have nothing to add to that. It sums up exactly what has happened over the past few months. Nobody at Fox or CNN or MSNBC has summed it up nearly this good. Nail on the friggin head!
Sorry Indy I must totally disagree. Your thinking is old school thinking on primaries. The Democrats showed us in 04 and 08 that you sink the incumbent party and choose your nominee over WHO GOES AFTER THE OTHER PARTY BEST - NOT ON WHO GOES AFTER EACH OTHER THE BEST. What drove Bush's ratings into the floor was everybody in 04 and 08 (03 and 07) Dem Primaries running against Bush. Kerry and Obama won those because they ran against BUSH the best, not because they ran against each other the best. Now you are agreed with by many GOP strategists, but that doens' help your case. A primary race is THE OPPOSITE OF, not the same as, a GENERAL ELECTION ONE ON ONE. Just isn't.

You are missing the point (nothing new about that). Not everybody is a political whore - true. BUT and this is where you are totally off the planet - BUT EVERYBODY WHO CHOOSES TO WORK FULL TIME INSIDE A PARTY APPARATUS DAMNED SURE IS. And besides being a whore, they are humans and they will have the human nature turf protectionism that comes with everybody's job on the planet. Human nature is the problem, not a party "label."
That’s strange. We have “party apparatus” going in all 50 states, and none of our leaders are political whores.
Again, perhaps your difficulty in understanding this has to do with where you’re standing. There’s a whole world out there that doesn’t look and smell like the bottom of the GOP cesspool.
