Veteran Republican consultant Mike Murphy tweets that the Rick Santorum surge is "real," suggesting that plurality support among social conservatives could put the former Pennsylvania senator in first or second place. Murphy considers Ron Paul's Iowa campaign "way over-rated," saying Paul might finish "[f]orth (sic), maybe third."

IMHO the Iowa debacle is still very fluid. I think the vote among the top 5 candidates will be very close.
Any Republican who hires Mike Murphy as ‘Republican Consultant’ are really getting cheated. The man is one of the biggest lip ass kissers who is best known for analysis that suggests if only the GOP were to be more open to Gay Marriage and Abortion they’d win every time. He also is rabidly anti-Palin.
Seems Paul is running to keep his message alive - keep the country strong through sound money and non military involvement. His message is not supported now but let’s see in 2016 when he won’t be the issue.
You don’t like Mike “the Klingon” Murphy? Mike’s advice is always the same, no matter whom the Republican is: Abandon any conservative principles. You need to totally appeal to moderates to win.
Here’s hoping some day “the Klingon” joins the Democrats.
Murphy knows overrated. Sees it every morning when looking in the mirror.
Keith Ellison will be around to keep his message alive.
Romney will win; he’s got the party regulars, who are mostly RINOs. Most evangelicals will go for Santorum with a sizable minority of them (who won’t support a Catholic) leaning to Newt. That leaves Perry and Bachmann with no obvious sources of support. I’ll be surprised if Paul gets more than 10-12%.
Yes he’s one of those I remember very clearly. He has a place right beside Mark McKinnon, Steve Schmidt, Nicole Wallace, David Brooks, David Frum, Margaret Hoover, Joe Scarborough, Kathleen Parker, and all the other MSM Friendly Republicans.
I agree they’d make perfect Democrats.
Newt converted to Catholicism about three years ago.
Yes, I know. The implication being that Newt did so out of convenience, that is, for Calista.
“Mike Murphy on the Santorum Surge (Paul Campaign Overrated)”
Let me fix that.
the Santorum Campaign Surge (Overrated)
I think you have it about right. And I always enjoy the irony of statments that claim most Republicans are RINO’s.
I left the R party in 2007 when I realized that as a right-winger, I was a RINO.
Newt probably converted because he thought Callista was so pious when he was banging her on a House conference room table in the late 1990s.
“the Santorum Campaign Surge (Overrated)”
We’ll see. Santorum may be boring, but he’s the only anti-Mitt that doesn’t stick both feet in his mouth every time he opens it.
If Romney gets the GOP nomination, the two parties have merged. The name will be Republicrats.
I’ll never vote republican again. I will register as an
Independent.
I've been entertained by that irony for a long time! If the majority of Republicans are 'moderates', how can they possibly be In-Name-Only?
In my experience, conservatives won't play hardball at caucuses or conventions, so they'll almost always end up outsiders. Conservatives make real concessions while moderates get away with just paying lip service.
Newt converted to Catholicism about three years ago.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
The Germans?
Forget it, he's rolling.
....saying Paul might finish “[f]orth (sic), maybe third.”
