Iowans might feel a bit overwhelmed by the choices for next Tuesday’s Republican caucuses for the GOP presidential nomination, but one independent group has begun running radio ads insisting that there is still room for one more choice. Calling itself “Sarah Palin’s Iowa Earthquake,” the group will target specific markets in Iowa asking voters to line up behind the Republican Party’s most prominent non-candidate, and other ads will apparently follow:
Can Iowans caucus for Palin at this late date? Sure. Unlike primary states, there is no “ballot” in the legal sense at caucuses. Attendees can write in names on the list of candidates they receive at the caucuses, and those votes will count. Of course, without Palin on the ballot and not officially in the race, not too many caucus-goers may choose to vote for her. If enough are dissatisfied with the current choices, though, she might be a handy code for None of the Above — and might get some significant level of support if the ads prompt enough Iowa voters to consider this as an option.
If so, who does that hurt most? Probably not Mitt Romney, whose base of support doesn’t have a lot of overlap with Palin’s. Newt Gingrich rose in the polls mainly on Tea Party support, so he’d be likely to feel the sting a little more, especially for those who backed Gingrich because he looked like the only viable alternative to Romney or Ron Paul. Paul might lose a little of his more recent support, but he’s going to get hurt more over his old newsletters and the vetting of his foreign-policy kookiness. It may end up hurting the candidates in the second tier struggling for an Iowa miracle — Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann. That’s assuming, of course, that it has any impact at all.
Let’s take a look at all five. The first two spots focus on the need to clean up crony capitalism:
Um. Nothing, repeat, n o t h i n g looks like Helen Thomas.
I think EEOC calls for an eyewash station every 50 feet... omg... gunner, where's the dwarf with the saline?
She sure ain’t CFR. She hasn’t messed around on her mate.
You wanna promote your pick or pee in the campfire?
Why does every Palin thread attract this?
Is there a DSM-IV category for it?
Because my pick is actually in the race.
Another lefty talking point that's been addressed ad nauseum. However I will address it ONE MORE TIME.
Dems for Obama (there are pics of them with Obama and in his campaign offices) were filing ethics suits one after another. They cost nothing to file. It cost Alaska several million dollars to fight and man hours. The state became bogged down and was not accomplishing anything. They were searching for records for the lawsuits. Every single one was dismissed. Palin was $500,000 in debt on a $125,000 salary from lawyers fees. Neither she nor the state could afford any more lawsuits. She resigned. She had already fulfilled every one of her campaign promises anyway.
Never give power to anyone who will not relinquish it for the good of the people.
I'm sorry that you have a problem with pretty women. Stop projecting it on others.
I don’t have a problem with a pretty face or women. I do have a problem electing someone because of a pretty face or just because she is a woman. I want someone with knowledge and experience. Someone quick on thier feet and in thier mind. Not reading off a teleprompter with a scripted speach like she did so often in 2008 election. To tell ya the truth, I don’t think she felt she was up to the scrutiny of the debates between the current candidates.
You’ve never actually seen her give a speech, have you.
Yeah, I have but she fails when grilled with questions she doesn’t know the answers to. Face it, she does not have the knowledge or experience it takes to be president.
I won’t waste perfectly good pixels trying to explain her record to you. I have no doubt you know the entire line of argument and have chosen to treat it as non-existent. How can I overcome that? You know the line, there are none so blind as those who will not see. And it is a deep, dark, Kantian blindness, unreachable in the otherness of you. No doubt if I had your life experiences exactly as you had them, I would see it as you do. But I have seen life very differently from you. I genuinely believe in strategic retreat, in risking loss to benefit another, in choosing what is unpopular to accomplish what is good. These things make sense to me. These things evoke respect in me. How can I convey that to you? Perhaps it is impossible. And yet, if I vote, I vote with all that in me. Therefore, yes, absolutely, her record speaks volumes to me about her character, all good, and worthy of presidential leadership. She would get my vote, without hesitation.
Governor Sarah Palin can hammer the ‘crony capitalism”, real leadership and real reform issues and do very well.
With her campaign and appeal based on issues and not appearance, she will do well.
TWB
What speech did you see and when?
Have you thought about what infests the white house, currently playing golf and snorkeling in Hawai'i?
I thought about linking 'cognitive dissonance' but perhaps... naw, ain't worth it.
Have a good evening.
One of the greatest lies that the press has successfully pulled off is that Sarah Palin isn’t qualified.
Damned straight.
Wow! Sounds great as it resonates with a lot of us.
So she is better than Obama, so what, so is 60% of the rest of America. I am not comparing her to the big O, yup, he stinks. But that doesn’t mean she is capable either.
There ya go again :o)
Is there a DSM-IV category for it?
Interesting question. I am beginning to believe there really is some confluence of psychological pathologies that lead to this condition. This is not a scientific analysis, but frequently I have found the most virulent anti-Palinites seem unalterably fixated on her female attractiveness. They invert it in a sense to use it as a weapon against her supporters, but it is there nonetheless, somehow operating to transform her every deed into relational terms of gender attraction, like "jilted" or "worshipped," etc., almost as if the bitter poster is reliving some failed relationship in their own past. It would be a fascinating thing to study at a clinical level.
