Clear Channel is beefing up the lineup on its 910 AM frequency, first by hiring fired KGO hosts Len Tillem and Gene Burns, and now by adding Rush Limbaugh. The new lineup starts Jan. 3. Limbaugh’s move was revealed publicly in a tweet by 910 morning hosts Armstrong & Getty.
There are two schools of thought about why Limbaugh is changing stations. One is that his show is expensive and KSFO’s owner, Cumulus Media, is cutting costs. That’s why they laid off most of the talk hosts at KGO and replaced them with less expensive news staffers. Another theory is that Limbaugh’s syndicator, Premiere Networks, is owned by Clear Channel, and it wanted him to throw his weight behind 910 to help it attract an audience.
Here's the schedule of KKSF 910 (formerly KNEW) starting Jan. 3: Armstrong & Getty 6-9 a.m., Rush 9-noon; Tom Sullivan noon-3; Len Tillem 3-4 and Gene Burns 4-7.
Weird. Doesn’t make sense to me but I don’t own KSFO.
Who comes on after Brian then?
Wow !! This is a shocker. That is a lot of change at KGO. I like Armstrong and Getty (or I used to at least, I haven’t listened to them for a couple of years). It will be cool to have them and Limbaugh on the same station. My only objection is that the KNEW signal seems to be rather weak at times. I sometimes cannot pick them up very well in the East Bay - and for some reason the station vanishes completely when the sun sets - and I have trouble picking it up again until the sun rises the next morning (at least this is the way it was a few years ago, when I listened more often). With all of these changes, I hope it will also include a boost to KNEW’s signal strength.
I don’t see a change reflected in the scheduling for either channel.
I get it. Change doesn’t take place until January 3rd so on reason to announce.
Yep. And doing more for conservatism with each opening monologue than al baby can hope to do.
Last time I heard 910 it was KEWB.
“Channel 91 -Color Radio”. was their tag.
KSFO Had their “The sound of the music...” Station I D.
I like Armstrong and Getty very much. They are very good from 6 to 9, then sort of drift around in the final hour, so giving them 3 hours - well, that's just fine. (thanks Mitt)
910 comes in O.K. during the day 'til just before sunset, around 4:45, then reduces power. It's harder to pick up until a few hours after sunset. I hope they keep John Gibson.
Music is failing from a sales standpoint. Yes, it’s cheap to program relatively but getting killed by iPods and so on. Fewer folks are looking to radio for their music.
The reason CC exercised their right to program Rush on their own stations was their failing music formats. That’s the reason Rush has moved from a lot of traditional talk AM stations in the past year to formerly music FMs in the same market. There are no doubt exceptions to this, but this is the general trend line.
There seems to be a big shift on. Two stations here in NYC have replaced more conservative hosts - Steve Malzberg and Joe Crummi - with former Governor David Patterson and Geraldo Rivera. This leaves Rush and Sean Hannity on one station and causing a light to shine on Fox Radio (970 AM).
Sucks for me. I listen to Rush on KSFO and the show prior as well. Oh well, guess I’ll find a new station. I listen for the show, not out of any regional interest.
From American Thinker:
I laughed so hard I almost peed the other day when this caller said 0 was creating jobs. He actually knew of one or two. Rush asked him where did they get the jobs and the guy says at the K-Mart and Target ‘factories’.
I remember all that stuff. I even remember Tom Kam, the ‘law enforcement’ host. He completely melted down & came out of the closet.
The Corporate Cr@p formula of generic imitation vanilla in each of their segmented music markets helped kill them off (along with personal device technology...).
“Is that old windbag still on the air?”
Just like the old windbags here.
Agreed. I pay for Sirius satellite so I at least have SOME music to listen to outside my own collection, but even with that, I find myself flipping stations to find something I want to hear. With terrestrial radio, I often find nothing at all worthwhile after scanning for minutes at a time.
We lost OV, according to Brian sussman’s face book page, he is gone....so many folks are mad.
I also understand Tom Sullivan is leaving KFBK, Egad no one is left.
