...Mike Huckabee On Ron Paul’s ‘Fanatical Believers’ And ‘Decent, Patriotic’ Barack Obama

Former Iowa Caucuses-winner Mike Huckabee apparently wants to spend his post-Christmas days deleting hate mail from his inbox. In an interview with Fox News Sunday‘s Chris Wallace, Huckabee delivered a fairly blistering assessment of Iowa frontrunner Rep. Ron Paul and his “fanatical believers.”

As if pissing off the Ronulans wasn’t enough, Huckabee denounced his party’s candidates for being too mean to President Obama, whom he called a “decent, patriotic American.”

Wallace began by trying to suck Huckabee into his own feud with Ron Paul fans, asking if a win by the Texas congressman would discredit the Iowa Caucuses. The former Arkansas Governor obliged Wallace, flatly declaring that Ron Paul “is not going to be elected president.”

“His views on foreign policy,” Huckabee said, “are so much an anathema to Republicans and Democrats and what I call middle of the road people. He has a core of fanatical believers, and they don’t represent mainstream Americans. It is not okay for Iran to have a nuclear weapon.”

Unless I missed something, though, Ron Paul didn’t say it was “okay” for Iran to have a nuclear weapon. There are fair arguments to be had over what Paul actually did say, which was that the US shouldn’t use military force to preempt Iran’s acquisition of such a weapon, but Huckabee’s remarks were an unfair distortion of Paul’s position.

Asked whether he second-guessed himself over his decision not to run for president, Huckabee really went for it. “Republicans can’t decide what they want to be when they grow up,” he said, adding, “I know they want to beat Obama, but in the process, they want to tear each other up so much, they want to savage each other so much that it will be difficult to beat Obama.”

“If I ran,” Huckabee continued, “it would be because I wanted to bring some ideas to the race, but I realize that will not be the focus. It is how mean can a person be.

“I don’t want to savage Barack Obama,” he said, later adding, “I think he’s a decent, patriotic American. He loves america different than me, but I don’t doubt he loves America.”

It should be noted that Huckabee wasn’t always on such a high road where President Obama is concerned. I guess it’s easier to be nice from the sidelines.

Here’s the clip, from Fox News Sunday:

Paul can never “make up” for his anti-Semitism and willingness to throw Israel under the bus.
If he is correct on some fiscal issues, those ideas are better put forth by a true conservative who understands the real dangers to America from Islamists, Chicoms & Russia.
Ostriches make weak leaders.
Ron Paul is not a conservative-he is a Libertarian. How far does this do your own thing extend! Drugs? Abortion? Lots of his positions are deliberately unclear.

I believe he’s also said they have “as much right as anyone else” to have a nuke “to defend themselves” because they “feel threatened’.

"Paul can never “make up” for his anti-Semitism and willingness to throw Israel under the bus."

Imagine if Israel would launch a successful preemptive strike against a country that is building a nuclear bomb that threatens its very existence, and the American president would describe it as “a tragedy”.

And then, not only would the U.S. administration fail to “stand by its ally”, as Republicans pledged, but it would actually lend its hand to a UN Security Council decision that condemns Israel, calls on it to place its nuclear facilities under international supervision and demands that it pay reparations (!) for the damage it had wrought.

And then, to add insult to injury, the U.S. president would impose an embargo on further sales of F-16 aircraft because Israel had “violated its commitment to use the planes only in self-defense”.

What other countries do has an affect on America, therefore we have concerns.

We aren’t broke, we have a major spending problem. America has plenty of income and assets.

+1

Huckabee just does not “get it” in so many ways, and that statement should just make it abundantly clear even for the clueless.

I’ve never been fooled by him.

He’s a genuine “flim-flam” preacher man. Elmer Gantry could not outdo him.

He holds the most naive belief that the old christian saying “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” still applies in this world order. The most evil enemy being Obama.

He does not even suspect that the saying has now changed to “do unto others as they have done unto you” or “do unto others as you think they will do unto you.”

He’s “Mr. Nice” and that kind of person cannot lead in any direction other than having the bully down the street beat the hell out of you, rape your wife, and steal everything you have. Meanwhile the whole family (our country) spins down the toilet.

I absolutely cannot stand the guy tending the sheep.

Don’t throw sophistry at me, afronaut. Anyone who thinks it’s just swell for Iran to want a nuke, and anyone who says they’re not going to police it, is someone who is saying it’s ok for iran to have a nuke.

Ron Paul is a disaster, and I will work to defeat any anti-Israel, possible anti-semite.
