At Christmas time, should the Nativity story be interpreted as a tale of solidarity with illegal immigrants? Some religious voices, anxious to push some version of liberalized immigration policy as a Christian imperative, describe Jesus and the Holy Family as the most premier of illegal immigrants.
One recent blogger for the Progressive Christian Alliance even crafted a novelette called "Christmas Undocumented: Anunciación" about a pregnant 14-year-old girl named Ave who is smuggled across the Texas border so she can get to her boyfriend in Alabama. First, she visits her cousin Isabella in San Antonio, who "leaps" for joy when hearing about the pregnancy. Only the first installment of the story has been released, but presumably Alabama's new immigration enforcement law will affect young Ave, her boyfriend, and the new baby.
A recent column for the National Catholic Reporter similarly posited that Mary and Joseph, with Baby Jesus, were akin to today's illegals by "seeking posada, or shelter" but finding no room at the inn. "The Christmas season should remind us of how Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus also represented migrants and refugees who were rejected like today's immigrants," the columnist suggested. "What if those we turn away today include Mary, Joseph and Jesus?" A cynical commenter responded: "What if the illegal aliens we reject are Herod or the soldiers who crucified Jesus?"

This is a canard hoisted by the amnesty crowd.
No, The Lord and his Mother, and his earthly adoptive father Joseph the Betrothed were NOT immigrants.
If they were anything politically definable, they were refugees, as they were not there of their own volition.
The continuing tirade of “everything you know is wrong” coming from the left. So they can supplant it with their own religion (i.e., statism).
Bethlehem was Joseph’s birth place. He would be considered a natural born citizen of Bethlehem under our laws.
Mary was betrothed to Joseph and would have been under his authority-essentially his property. She would not be an illegal alien so long as she was betrothed to her husband.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem and would have been treated as a natural born citizen under our laws. Also, as God’s son Jesus was granted all authority in heaven and on earth and by definition cannot be an illegal alien anywhere on earth.
the message of the Inn is not illegal aliens. It is about the condition of our hearts. There was no room for Jesus then and there still remains little room for Jesus today. He is not welcome in many hearts. He is not welcome as an authority in many lands. He is not held close as we go about our daily lives. We do not make time to give Him credit for his saving grace or all the physical and spiritual gifts he provides.
His illegal alien status remains with the world that denies him. But that world is only here for a short time.
Give me a freakin’ break.
He would’ve been a settler
Yes, Slick Willy told us that back when he was king.
These "leaders" evidently never read "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and unto God..."
Like so many others, these church fathers want the gubmint to do its job.
vaudine
You are right, Mary and Joseph were being obedient to the law.
Just about the opposite of illegal aliens.
Well baby Jesus was ‘Hey-soos’, Joseph was ‘Jose’ and Mary was ‘Maria’. I guess the 3 Wise Men were Democrat politicians giving gifts and pandering for votes. Mean old Herod was like a Sheriff Joe Arpaio then.... it all makes sense when you lower the IQ to the level of a leftist liberal lunatic analogy maker....
Heh heh heh. You’re just plain mean.
And why Bethlehem as the census point? Because it was the place of Joseph's birth. Joseph was a citizen!
Consider that a modern day Jose and Maria would have to go back to Mexico to be counted. No anchor baby for them!
