With the policies of the GOP now in place, anyone could run under the Republican banner.
The mentality of the GOP has brought it to this point in history, where the party pushes candidates who sound like Democrats in order to trick the electorate into believing Republicans aren't really "mean" enough to expect them to be responsible for their own lives. But that is not the problem of Ron Paul. The Ron Paul problem of the GOP is that there has never been a real clear interpretation of what he and his followers truly believe because the Republican Party wants their money and activism no matter what they believe. The tent is big enough to hide them in a corner.
Because the GOP has pitched moderate/liberal Republicans as their picks for candidacy at every level, the conservative electorate has finally figured out that they can pretty much bet that whatever the GOP pushes is the wrong choice. And now that Republicans have joined the Democrats in their "compassionate" mugging of the honest people of America, one aspect of Ron Paul's message is resonating, fiscal responsibility. The polls in Iowa, even though flawed, are sending fear throughout the GOP and the only people fighting back are the conservatives, the largest group in the party and one the moderate GOP leadership is busy trying to silence.
The Ron Paul problem wouldn't be coming to a head right now if the GOP hadn't done a bang-up job of blurring the lines between what the Republican Party stands for and what the Democrat Party stands for. They have been trying to get rid of the social issues, telling their party faithful that politics is about multiplication, not division, meaning that pro-abortion GOP candidates have to be supported, that gay factions of the party should be supported no matter their tactics, and a hard line should not be drawn on gay marriage. They want to go green, but do it in a way that doesn't lose as many jobs as the Democrats would. They agree that budget cuts have to be made, and that includes the military. They tell us that ideology does not really have a place in accepting members, and when socialists and liberal activists are pointed out, they say, hey, but they are conservatives, fiscally. And if you try to show how this blows holes in the platform, you are told that nobody agrees with everyone on every issue.
Of course not, but it's starting to seem like a pro-abortion, pacifist eco-nut could be the next GOP candidate for President as long as he wanted to cut spending.
Because the GOP will not stand behind Conservatives who actually follow the platform like Santorum and Bachmann, and because they have never questioned the tendencies of Ron Paul outside of fiscal conservatism, he is running wild like a liberal in Iowa, downplaying his foreign policy, and making different promises to different people. Hey, if you are an Iowan waitress, your tips wouldn't be taxed, vote Ron Paul. Hey college kids, if you want drugs legalized, vote for Ron Paul. Hey Gramma, if you are against abortion, so is Ron Paul. Hey man, if you are sick of the Jewish State of Israel, Ron Paul wants to talk to you. If you think 9/11 was an inside job, never fear, there is a GOP candidate who wants your vote. If you like Barney Frank and Dennis Kucinich, two of the most liberal Democrats in DC, Ron Paul has worked with them, and he can work your issues in too.
So now the Big Tent Frankenstein is gaining ground. The people of Iowa are more than likely so overwhelmed by Paul-bots talking about un-constitutional wars and the necessity of ending the fed, that they don't know his foreign policy, or have been convinced that foreign policy is not what matters right now, and it's all because the GOP never draws a line.
Excellent Jen!
thank you!
yes, he is in the tent, his activists are in every county party across the nation at his behest.
Show me where he said 9/11 is an inside job?
In my effort to expose Paulistas, I will publish an email from the “real tea party” people, the Ron Paul fanatics.
Arvind Kumar of Houston, Texas writes,
I saw your post on Ron Paul and GOP. You mention Rick Santorum. Santorum is a fraud who is setting himself up for becoming Mitt’s VP.
Santorum once (in 1990) called himself a “progressive conservative” and was opposed to abortion only in the last three months of pregnancy.
Santorum supports ethanol subsidies to prevent Global Warming.
Santorum voted to raise the debt ceiling.
Santorum got earmarks for Amtrak.
Santorum spent money on corrupt schemes like highway warning systems that mean nothing.
Santorum is for individual mandate in healthcare (this was his position during the Hillarycare debate).
Santorum has voted for Community Block Development programs.
NY Times called him a friend of the poor (euphemism for supporter of Communist schemes).
Santorum supported Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey.
Just because he talks of Jesus does not make him a conservative. Besides, keep in mind that socialism itself came from Christianity. So why do you support Rick Santorum instead of the TEA Party? And yes, the real TEA Party came up due to economic policies, not to talk about Jesus.
Ron Paul is the Republican Party’s poison pill for the constitutionalists.
Show me where I said he said that.
Dr. Paul isn't going to be the nominee, and I'm not buying the polls that say otherwise. The PPP poll that has Paul ahead in Iowa is an outlier, and has very flawed internals.
Having said that, I don't disagree with the point of your essay. You are absolutely right in that the GOP needs to offer a clear and distinct difference from the liberal democRATs.
??
why?
Ron Paul has said US bases in Saudi Arabia caused 9/11. Which is akin to a murderer blaming his victim for her death because he didn’t like her hair color. Paul is a sick animal along with his neo-nazi supporters.
btt
LOL, that entire thing can be turned on Paul easily.
Paul many times calls himself a Libertarian (a party that says abortion is up to the States to do with as they wish0 and reject the Republican party and Reagan specifically.
Ron Paul cosponsored a bill supports natural gas subsidies (HR1380).
Ron Paul is one of the leaders in requesting earmarks, continuing the process of an increased baseline budget.
Ron Paul got earmarks for the Trans Texas Corridor.
Ron Paul earmarked money on corrupt schemes like highway warning systems that mean nothing.
Ron Paul supported Ralph Nader, Cynthia McKinney and Chuck Baldwin over John McCain.
First one got messed up...
Paul many times calls himself a Libertarian (a party that says abortion is up to the States to do with as they wish and should be legal) and reject the Republican party and Reagan specifically.
he reaches out to the far left for votes, and he doesn’t have to lie to get their vote
Who is this?
Read John Hawkins’s column at Townhall.com about Paul’s statements concerning 9/11, and then tell us what you think.
