I think everyone should vote the way their heart tells them to vote and ignore all the manipulations.

To use the old adage, Governor Perry is the candidate I would most like to have a beer with just like President Bush was.

Wow. And that is a reason to vote for the guy? Really? And he complains about the American Idol types. He is WORSE!!!! I don’t think I have ever read a more stupid reason to vote for someone EVER!!!! Go Bachmann!!!!!

Definitely consider your heart, look at the facts, look at the candidates willingness to listen to his/her constituents. Don’t just focus on the presidency. It is VERY VERY important to get state representatives, state senators, US Representatives and US Senators elected that reflect the correct values and understanding that they are to represent their district.
I am working hard to get rid of everyone of my current reps and replace them with new and that includes that guy sitting in our White House.

Those are exactly the reasons I got behind Perry early on in the campaign and I haven't waivered a bit.

I like the shooting the right tire analogy because that's what I believe must happen too, and I think Perry is the one to do it and still hang onto the wheel and bring us safely home.

That was an excellent essay and I agree.

I loved Bush, even though it’s popular to diss him on Free Republic which is mean, ungrateful and tacky.

But Perry does combine the likeability of Bush with a far more conservative turn of mind.

That’s the whole meaning of the ‘who would you like to have a beer with’ phrase. It’s who you feel is a genuine person whose company you would enjoy and a person you could relax with while also admiring his leadership and principles.

Good... Perry, Bachmann and Santorum are all better than the two front running candidates... one a progressive big government lover and romney an out and out communist.

The only time I read someone 'diss' W on FR was regarding his conservative credentials. The man was a class act and loved his country greatly - who can question that?

However, that does not excuse him for some of the things he did that hurt conservatism.

I like Perry because he has already proven that he will govern as a conservative. That is good enough for me.

It’s funny how, with all the issues before us and as important as they are, the issue of character isn’t treated as being very important. (Except of course when it comes down to eliminating a candidate that is just too much of a threat, i.e. Herman Cain).

But in terms of character- while several candidates are good, Rick Perry stands above the rest, in my opinion.

Between Perry and Gingrich? - no comparison.

I liked his point about the “having a beer”. Both Bush and Perry are good guys and would be fun to have a beer with but with Perry you wouldn’t talk about how we need social programs and education programs in DC. You would talk about how do we get DC out of the States hair. Big difference.

I read a point someone made in one of the Iowa papers I believe. He said when asked if people liked Newt they generally said yes, when asked if they trusted Newt it was more often a no.

I would say that is where I stand too.

“You can’t tell me that America is not exceptional. You can’t tell me that because I’ve seen it”

The quote above is why I’m voting for Perry in Florida.

I don’t know what has come over conservatives. Have we decided to willfully blind ourselves to Newt and his left-leaning tendencies? A couple of weeks ago, Hannity asked him to explain his past support of cap and trade, and whether he would support it in the future. Newt said, “I don’t think I would go that far.” And Hannity LET THAT SLIDE. I know he’s up Newt’s butt, but it was his responsibility to ask,”You wouldn’t go that far? Then how far WOULD you go? What would you do?”

Rick Perry has openly declared that global warming is a hoax. He’s a proven conservative with a decade-long record of leadership, and I am with him all the way.

President Perry. He’s already proven he can rule and get re-elected.

That isn’t what the man said.

HE gave his reasons for voting Perry throughout the whole piece of writing.

Having a beer was the likability factor, not the voting for factor.

Anyone who reads the piece, whether they support Perry or don’t, knows that isn’t what the man said.

Your braindead comment achieved nothing.

Your right. I should have just been truthful and called Perry a loser who will be back in Texas very soon. I wonder how many more illegal aliens will get the college jackpot that he provides.

I slightly differ.

Newt can appear likable, he can also be a pain on the likability scale.

He can be very harsh, very self superior, lecturing others from the mountaintop, smartest guy in the room etc., cold as ice when he feels like it.

Not always, but he certainly can be and has been.

Most people love to hear Newt talk. He’s an amazing talker. If I were to say I like Newt, that’s what I would mean.

Like him as a PERSON?

Not so much.

I know your point was about trust vs likability, but I wanted to put this into the mix.
