This subject has been gone over at least a dozen times. Go look it up.

Wow, got smug.

Oh I have looked it up...perhaps a half-dozen times, and I am not comfortable with ambiguous language....and lackk of coverage on the issue. This could have been and should have been covered and the language should have been changed.

Sorry, but I am glad that Canada FREE Press is posting about it as so few did here, and I am glad it was posted on FR. I don’t think a dozen times is all that much for such an important issue. Frankly, Obamacare pales in comparison to the ramifications of the power expansion this bill grants.

So as long as you don’t publicly criticize Obama or Eric Holder, you’re probably safe.

Ok, so no biggie....

Some reactionary Americans make a fetish of the Bill of Rights, especially the first, second, fourth, fifth, and tenth amendments. Pretty much the same bitter clingers who are attached to their guns and religion.

Progressive Americans understand that is just for show, relics of a bygone era which should not stand in the way of social justice, equality, and fairness.

Why not? I suggest you look back at the bloody open mass grave that was the 20th century. First comes the secret policeman’s cry of the need for extra judicial powers in the time of crisis.

Then from the self serving politicians come “enabling acts” these are followed by folks being snatched off the streets & disappeared in the name of state security.

Then the announcement of special institutions for the care & custody of persons unable to fit in with the new political reality ( that’s the mission statement for Dachau Concentration camp)

Then come the final solutions & you find yourself standing at the edge of a mass grave. We have seen this around the globe & on all of the continents .

So yes it CAN happen here if we the people let it ! GET INVOLVED!!!The life you save just might be your own.

It was more than just the Japanese . It was also Germans & Italians . The last internees to be released after WWII were Germans & Italians &they were immediately stripped of their citizenship & deported on the first available ship back to the old country in 1948 literally 3 years after the end of the war.

Agreed. However, for sake of argument I chose the internment of the issei, nisei and sansei thinking their internment was the most publicized.

My concern is that the language I read was ambiguous and would be interpreted by various administrations based on the thinking at that time, not our constitution.

I have news for you. The Army was advertising for detention camp guards on Monster.com last year. I saw the ad myself. At first I couldn’t believe it. Actually it was for “relocation camps”. They caught flak for it so they took the ad off. This has been coming for awhile. Notice how the republicrats have almost all voted for this Armed Forces bill that allows the govt to have the military round up and indefintely detain american citizens. They all know the big crash is coming and there will be an open rebellion when folks realize what is happening. It has nothing to do with terrorism. I’ll tell you what we have discussed it and we are not going to a “relocation” camp. They can just kill us at our front gate. I am so upset about this legislation I can hardly bear it.

There is a preponderance of red blooded Americans who like you will not go quietly into the night. My hunch is that they will be accomodated while designated authority chips away around the edges. Until we as a people stand up on our hind legs and demand an end to the tyranny of governing elitists it will go on and on becoming worse and worse.
When the military becomes a national police force we are at war among ourselves. This is the essential element of civil war. By this act and others like it the government has declared war against its citizens.

That there are only three Repubs on this list says it all - they can’t be trusted any more.

Hellfire is coming down on our heads already - watch “The Patriot” again and you will be reminded that none of us want armed rebellion, but we are being left with no other choice unless we want to do some Gandhi/MLK stuff first and see how the Powers that Be go for that.

There is no way to tweek our Nation back to normalcy. I wish there were a way, but there isn’t.

As usually there is great wailing and gnashing of teeth and after 34 posts no one has even put up a link to the bill so they can read it themselves. I'm not going to bother reading the whole thing to find the relevant text because I can do nothing about it and have more pressing matters to attend to.

I believe it was the National Guard that was advertising for the Detention Center guards a few years ago as well. This all came out of the Health Care Reform Act with the civilian force and relocation camps in case of “national emergency.” What is newsworthy here is how the Administration saw to it that this legislation would apply to Americans on American soil. The fix truly is in that all but a handful of our Congressmen voted against it.

If the govt does initiate wholesale round ups of American citizens then with their backs up agains’t the wall you will see a large segment of citizens resist in a militarized way. Hopefully it will not come to that.

I know you believe in that article strongly, but it would be better titled "What Good Can A Handgun Do Against An Army When Two Superpowers Are Waiting For The Right Moment To Liberate The Handgun-Holder." Just after World War 2, in one of his unpublished stories, Robert A. Heinlein made the point that no resistance has ever succeeded without outside help. Trouble is, the only outside help that could swing enough clout to successfully aid a Resistance against a tyrannical U.S. would be China or Russia.

To take up a related point: I have to admit that I was quite the bookworm, and still am in many a way. Thus, it took me a long time to realize what a practical person knows intutively: a "pre-revolutionary situation" is about as obvious as the nose on someone's face. The desertion laws become even more unenforcable than America's immigration laws. Criminals who confine their activities to crimes against the regime are so popular, the authorities are too afraid of the people to arrest them. Patriots, including those from patriotic families of long standing, are cultivating the art of the blind eye en masse. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed ordinary youngsters who wish to go into government draw a split decision: half laugh at them; half pity them. Government reports bear no relation to reality. The ruling class is F'd up beyond arrogance: they really have no idea what's going on in their own country.

And here's the kicker: no-one engages in revolutionary activity, but no-one is afraid to. Most people think a revolution would succeed...but revolution is just too much of a bother to be bothered with.

The U.S. won't be in a pre-revolutionary situation until:

In other words, the entire middle-class United States of America is like the 'Hood, only without the predatory violence.

Fact is, the Czarist regime saw mass desertions from the military during World War 1. On the eve of the French Revolution, the French government couldn't even collect ten percent of the taxes due. Both governments showed glaring weaknesses in at least one of their prime functions. Hence the power vacuum that the revolutionaries filled.

By my outsider's eyes, the U.S. is nowhere close. As I hoped I intimated, substantially all of those items above have to be present before a real pre-revolutionary situation exists.

To close: I should tip the hat to you for squeezing a mini-vanity out of me. I hunbly suggest that everyone here leave the Straussesque scryings of the news reports to the moonbats.

After all, they have a tradition to keep up and even a certain verve in their own way. It takes a real stout-hearted moonbat to look at the latest demand for a payoff and see 1917 Russia :)
