CBS's executive producer for the television series Hawaii Five-O, Peter Lenkov, issued an apology on Tuesday, December 14, 2011, on behalf of the Hawaii Five-0 production unit, to "veterans and members of the Greatest Generation Foundation whom we unintentionally offended when our events coincided." [ snip ] the crew was rude and disrespectful to 23 World War II veterans who attended a ceremony and visited the sacred cemetery while they were filming. Production assistants shushed and rushed the WWII veterans as they laid red roses at their friends’ gravesites and continued to work during the national anthem, taps and during the ceremony

Watched the first episode to see the Korean Cylon chick.

The new improved Kono? That one caused me some cognative dissonance.

I bailed with the line 'she was a pro surfer until blowing out her knee a few years ago'.

Interesting trivia about the original show:

Freeman offered Richard Boone the part of McGarrett, but Boone turned it down; Gregory Peck and Robert Brown were also considered for the part. Ultimately, Jack Lord—then living in Beverly Hills—was asked at the last moment. Lord read for the part on a Wednesday and was cast for the part and flew to Hawaii two days later. On the following Monday, Lord was in front of the cameras. Freeman and Lord had worked together previously on an unsold TV pilot called Grand Hotel.

I want my country back, too.

My kids have started learning about World War II a little in school and apparently all they have heard about is Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I have to explain to them how the Japanese started the war — they “sowed to the wind and reaped the whirlwind.”

Lord's career was in the crapper, at 49 this was his last shot. He bought shares in the show and since he had a financial interest was a tyrant on the set.

I worked with a woman who lived on the north shore at the time, dated James McArthur (who was apparently dating while his wife lived in LA) and attended a couple of cast & crew parties. She said the Lords were very aloof.

Seriously.

>>>Watched the first episode to see the Korean Cylon chick. It sucked. Watched part of another episode a couple of weeks ago. It sucked worse.

I almos watched the 5-0 episode where there was the cross-over when NCIS-LA... Kensi (Daniela Ruah) appeared... Didn’t. Watched an LA rerun instead. More Daniela Ruah :)

Never ever again. I have better things to do like play with my kitty cats then go to sleep.

Just an observation: The last dumb show I saw about a month ago, I realized everyone mumbles. What the little I could understand of our English language was difficult.

Anyway…The heck with the show. No loss.

The guy who led this trip for the Greatest Generation Foundation is Steffen Tubbs, a morning news host here in Denver. The Foundation arranges trips for veterans to travel to overseas battlefields and cemeteries. Tubbs has been very active with them.

Hollywood immediately began trashing him as a right-wing radio talk show host, which is total Bravo Sierra. He is a straight down the middle newsman. After having listened to him for years I can honestly say I don't know what his politics are. He has total credibility with me and that bunch of arrogant a-holes from seeBS have none. Tubbs' account was corroborated on air by others on the trip.

The tragedy of this is this was the 70th Anniversary and the average age of the few attending was 91. They will probably not live to see the 75th and this one was ruined for them.

From what gossip I’ve heard Jack Lord was pretty much of a dick. Richard Boone (Paladin) had already done some private eye show where he wore a Hawaiin shirt, but I think that one was set in Florida.

I loved the original show too. I watched on of the new ones and have passed on watching others.

Jack Lord would never have allowed this kind of thing to happen.

Sometimes people get too wrapped up in their work, especially in a high-pressure job. However, reading the original account, the director needs a sound kick in the (beast of burden) for his high-handedness.

Perhaps the vet should have punched the director.

Peter Lenkov has a Facebook page, but no way to add comments. He also has a Twitter account.

If I was a vet, I would have said in a loud voice “What sonny? Sorry I can’t hear you. Hearing was damaged when the shells went off nearby. WHAT!?!?! You are doing WHAT!?! Speak up boy I can’t hear you.

And kept it up till they left me alone.

“...My kids have started learning about World War II ...”

You are the first line of defense in your kids’ education, Clover...make sure they know that the Japanese were butchering people in China for ten years prior to attacking us. Tell them about Nanking, and the beheading contests that Japanese officers carried out, betting to see who could lop off the most Chinese heads in a single month.

Bet they don’t talk about that in the schools....

Make sure they know about the Bataan Death March, and the Americans, our ancestors, OUR people, who were butchered for falling behind, shot, bayoneted, beheaded, for trying to get a mouthful of water from caribou waterholes fouled with animal dung.

Bet they don’t talk about that in the schools, either...

Make sure you tell them about Saipan and Okinawa, and Mothers throwing themselves and their children off of the cliffs or holding grenades to their chests and pulling the pins, because the Japanese had told them that the Americans, the Gaijin Round-eye White Devils, would rape them to death and torture them, and the American GIs pleading with the mothers to not jump...

Make sure they know about what these animals did to the Philippine people, brave, courageous allies who suffered MISERABLY at the hands of the Japanese and endured torture, rape, and death for helping to hide/shelter Americans.

No, they won’t teach that in the schools, will they...it doesn’t fit the agenda.

I had uncles who fought in the Pacific. One died on Iwo Jima. Another almost died on Okinawa from a bayonet to the throat, but he actually lived to tell about it. He was pinned under a jeep when the bastard stuck him in the throat and left him for dead.

The Japanese are damned lucky we didn’t use ten atomic bombs on them.

Now they’re good allies. But they have a streak in their society that wants to rewrite and/or bury WWII as well.

You want your country back? Start by taking back the school system and the textbooks, and removing liberal/socialist teachers and administrators.

Sorry for the rant...my family was deeply affected by WWII, my father was Airborne in Europe, his brothers and cousins were Army and Marine Corps in the Pacific, and I grew up in the shadow of those incredible men from that generation.

We FOUGHT these same people that are trying to erase our culture, our history, and our people right now.

There's an article available on the web (Honolulu Advertiser?) where a TV critic writes about encountering Lord after retirement sitting in his white caddie (with personalized license plates) in front of the Kahala Mall waiting for his wife. All Lord talked about was the milestones the show achieved - number of episodes, awards, etc. It wasn't a flattering depiction.

I guess the show paid him well, though.

CBS is slime.

This is not new...there’s no one in that crew of Obamaloon worshippers who was worth saving by the greatest generation.

Die, CBS, die.

Now.

these movie people do not give a rat’s behind about anything but their deadlines.

They would have stepped on the graves regardless.

This is a phoney balony appology.

BTW I thought the show was already cancelled.

Time for some action on advertisers.
