BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- U.S. Justice Department officials said Monday that they have gotten more than 1,000 calls or emails reporting problems immigrants are having living under Alabama's immigration law.
Tom Perez, assistant attorney general of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Justice Department, and other Justice Department and U.S. Labor Department officials were in Birmingham on Monday to continue gathering information and listening to stories about the impact the law is having on immigrants and looking for possible civil rights violations.
"The more we hear, as we do our listening, the more concerned we are about the impact of Alabama's immigration law on a wide range of federal rights," Perez said at a press briefing.
The Justice Department last month set up a hot line, 1-855-353-1010 and a website, Hb56@usdoj.gov, for people to report problems and possible civil rights violations from the state immigration law.
Some of the areas or allegations Perez said the Justice Department is concerned about include:
Students of illegal immigrants not going to school out of fear that they or their families may be reported and possibly deported.
Racial profiling by state or local law enforcement officers. "We are hearing troubling reports of individuals being stopped simply because of their appearance," Perez said.

Get out of our country, you whining rat-bastard illegals. Go back to your loser countries and try to make them civilized or something...and take your “anchor-babies” with you.
Robert Bentley for POTUS..... Roll Tide Roll!!!
I want to know how an illegal has Constitutional, and civil rights.
That’s what the law is intended to do, for heaven sakes, cause problems for illegal immigrants and get them to leave the State. Sounds like the new law is working fine, to me. The only people who have a problem is the Obama Admin, because they are on the opposite side, they LOVE illegal immigrants, and see them all as future Dem voters. Let’s state where the “problem” really is coming from. Obama and his minions.
And what would happen if I was in Germany, got caught by the Polizei for a traffic violation and didn't have a driver's license or my passport? I doubt that they would just give me a friendly Auf Wiedersehen and send me on my way.

Make sure you vote for Newt Gingrich, lol!
How about the tax payers who have to pay for for the illegals upkeep flood this 800 number letting them know how pleased we are that this new law is having the desired effect. Unfortunately, I live in Georgia, we are flooded with illegals. We haven’t passed this law or similar, yet!!!!
Liberal activists are busy writing letters to their “people” on Holder’s staff. They got a lot of practice in this are of being counted and recounted by filling out absentee ballots and mailing in dead people’s votes.
If these letters are in English, they are not from the so-called invader victims.

OKAY! It sounds like the State Law is working, as designed!
Now on to the other 49 States! The Feds can make any stupid law that they want to as long as they restrict it to THEIR Federal Land.
BTW, maybe an ILLEGAL ALIEN OCCUPY WASHINGTON Obamaville next to the White House would be a good sanctuary for the illegal aliens, all 12 MILLION of them.
They should have received more calls than that just from mi amigos looking for the Tennessee line. Must not have set it up in espanol??? These Feds are full of it I’ll bet it’s staffed with more than the 1000.
Seems to me that if the children are not going to school that is a matter of their choice and or their parents. The law does not say they cannot attend.

Yeh, I think that was the general idea. Make it difficult so they will leave.
