Newt is 100% correct on his immigration stance-

All he is saying it essentially that you cannot throw millions of people out of the country the first day in office - YOU NEED TO MAKE A PLAN

There HAS TO BE a plan that takes into consideration the fact that we are suddenly trying to enforce a law that has not been enforced for 40 years.

There are people who have lived their whole lives here and have jobs and own houses. Do we confiscate the property?

Do we take entire generations of parents, children, and now grandchildren out of jobs and homes and schools and send them home to Mexico on day one?

I like getting them all on the books, and making it clear that any illegal activity gets them tossed out (like VOTING)

NO CITIZENSHIP!!! but we need to know who they are, and document them in some manner (hey- how about ‘guest worker’!!) and get them to have

To: Mr. K; Logical me
Setting up false choices (à la Obama) of ridiculous extremes does not aid the dialog on this topic:
Shall we let them all stay or put them on freight cars back to Mexico on day one and confiscate their property?
Really?

The discussion should be on the subjects of tighter border restrictions, severe fines for employers who hire illegal immigrants, withdrawal of federal funding for so-called 'sanctuary cities'. But most of all, leave the term 'compassionate' (what crap) out of the discussion.

This guy broke into my house. I came home from vacation to find him living in my guest bedroom.

I was going to call the cops, but he said, “Look, I’ve already been living here all week. I even made the bed every day.

“Sure, I ate the food out of your fridge and tried on a bunch of your clothes, but I also washed the windows.

“You can’t kick me out, I have a baby living in your bedroom too. It would be inhumane and cruel. I’ll tell you what - I’ll pay you $500, you don’t have to call me a member of your family, and I get to stay.

“You won’t be granting me amnesty for breaking and entering.”

Newt said it was a good plan, and a bunch of people on Freerepublic agreed and told me it was the only practical thing to do.

After all, he had been in my house for a while and it wouldn’t make any sense to kick him out.

Rather naive thinking if you ask me. Once you confer any status of legality, ANY status of legality, you open the door automatically (via our court systems) to citizenship lawsuits - AND THEY WILL COME, and the votes will come thereafter.

No one is suggesting round them up all at once. Make it illegal, with harsh punishment, to hire them, provide them resources, or allow them any public resources save those immediately needed to save their lives.

Their property? Ha! Where are the damned taxes I’ve had to pay to help support these users? Where?

If you get them ‘on the books’, you get them, lock, stock and barrel - including their subsistence, because that’s were most of them are now.
