So, Governor Rick Perry made a speech today where he proposed the following:
* Ending the practice of giving lifetime appointments to federal judges (current judges would not be affected);
* Cutting Congressional pay in half;
* Cutting Congressional pay in half again if they dont balance the budget by 2020;
* Cutting Congressional office budgets in half;
* Cutting the Congressional calendar by half;
* Criminalizing insider trading by Congressmen (no, actually, its not currently illegal for them to do that);
* Reducing spending to 18% of GDP;
* Privatizing Fannie & Freddie;
* Ending the funding of Planned Parenthood;
* Eliminating the Commerce, Education, and Energy Departments;
* Getting the EPA under control;
* Getting the TSA under control;
* Audit the government, including the Department of Defense;
* Freeze incoming federal regulations, and audit all of them for the last five years;
* Federal salary freeze for all non-military and non-law enforcement officials until the budget is balanced;
* And cutting the Presidential salary in half until the budget is balanced

Exactly. We need to adopt this mindset and move in this direction. Perry means it and he will start this ball moving in the right direction.
The agenda has to be realistic. What Perry is putting out for all to consume this early in the 2012 election is unrealistic. Part of being a good candidate is realizing that you DO NOT put all your cards on the table, especially not this early in a campaign. You also DO NOT tip your hand to your opponents, especially this early in the campaign (opponents also includes Obozo). Reagan gave out enough of what he proposed to work towards to potential voters during the campaign, but never gave all his goals out.
Iowa is in 7 weeks. This isn’t all of his agenda either. If anything it shapes the conversation. People are pissed off at the greedy vermin enriching themselves while they took a major financial hit.
Gov Perry has won every election he’s entered.

IF we lived in a different state than Texas, we'd be sucking eggs like the rest of the country, thanks to Perry we aren't. Texas was last into the recession and guess what we are the first out of the recession.

Perhaps all you say is true. I stress, perhaps. Even so, Perry (nor anyone else) has the power to single-handedly make the changes in this proposal. What Perry is doing, badly IMO, is trying to correct course of a shipwrecked campaign - period. Even Reagan, of whom Perry would not be fit to carry water for, would not have played the hand Perry has played here, and Reagan had the skills needed to manuever the shark infested waters of D.C. Perry has demonstrated no facility to be at that level.

could just as easily have been made by a libtard during the 2008 election in support of Obozo. I AM NOT suggesting here that you are an Obozo supporter. I'm just pointing out how your statement could also apply to the mindset of liberals in the 2008 campaign.

So you’re crediting Perry with being the force that has kept Texas in better financial shape than the other 49? Do you not realize that Texas has one of the weakest governorships in the nation? During session, the Lt. Governor has more power. Then the speaker. Perry (or whoever is gov) may be able to suggest what is slated as an emergency item, but he has zero power to force the speaker or the Lt. governor on how and when they take action.
You have to remember Perry has the support of all the Republican governors as their leader, men and women who want
the same rollbacks (tort reform, voterID, no income tax, EPA stuffed in a burlap bag and fed to the catfish, right-to-work, etc) as we either have or are working on. That’s serious ground game in itself.
Not to mention the ability to turn Statehouses solid red, and
punish the union leeches to the extent possible.
Reagan had it way harder than Perry, he wasn’t coming off a historic sweep like November 2010 was. Perry has taken every advantage to forward the movement and entrench it within the States.
It’s as silent and amorphous as the TEA party itself, and it is replicating itself everyday. Do you wonder why Newt, the essential Fed Guy, started talking states’ rights out of nowhere last week? He sees where the herd is heading, and wants to get out in front of it.

If Perry were to become President and presented this kind of leadership and plan to the Congress Critters.
And if they blow up over it like we know they will.
We The People communicate boldly to our Representatives that we WANT what is being proposed and if they do not cooperate - they get their butts voted out of office and replaced with tea party or whoever representatives who will do the will of the people.
I am a Tea Party Patriot. But, in case you haven’t noticed, it is the OWS cretins who are getting all the attention. The people who are praising Perry’s proposals as identified on this thread all seem to be of the mind that all this will take is someone making the proposals. Our country is faced with a seriously fractured body politic. There is NO consensus among voters today. There is NO We The People right now. The libtards in D.C. have succeeded in fracturing We The People into various single-issue groups. Why, if all it takes is for We The People to communicate to D.C. what our expectations are, have We The People been summarily dismissed by D.C.?
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Well of course it could apply to any party. Motivated voters make the difference in elections. People were motivated in 2008. We are paying the price today. If we want to undo the progressive policies we better be more motivated in 2012 to elect the one conservative candidate with the record to prove it.
And yet, it is the OWS cretins who are being given all the attention, both through the Lame Stream Media and by politicians. The Tea Party continues to be vilified by both.
