Video tribute at site ping!
Thank you to all those that served, past and present, and those that continue to protect our freedoms.
Found out the other day that my Grandfather and Grandmother were married on Armistice Day, he was a WWI vet.
How neat was that. :-)
13 fantastic videos! Great job! bttt
Thanks for the bump, Matchett. Glad you enjoyed it.
Looks like you raided Mark Levin’s audio stash ;o)
Don’t forgot the Coast Guard, they are the fifth branch of the military. I don’t
know where the Merchant Marines fall though...
Merchant Marines are primarily a peace time agency. However, they would fall under the auspices of the Department of the Navy in a time of war, and did so during World War II, Korea, etc...
I sent your web site link along with Huck’s VIDEO link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou7y8AyTwIY to my brother, Jim, (a Vietnam vet) today.
Thought you two would appreciate reading his response. Get a hanky.
HI GUYS;
THANK YOU SO MUCH, THESE REMARKS ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED ON THIS VETERANS DAY.
I REALLY HOPE AND PRAY THAT THIS NATION CONTINUES TO REMEMBER ALL THE SACRIFICES OUR MEN AND WOMEN ARE MAKING EVERY DAY OUT THERE!
ON MY LAST VA HOSPITAL VISIT I FOUND MYSELF IN A SMALL WAITING ROOM ALL ALONE WITH A YOUNG IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN WAR INFANTRY VETERAN THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY SUFFERING FROM P.T.S.D.
I RECOGNIZED HIS SYMPTOMS IMMEDIATELY, BECAUSE I WAS THAT WAY MYSELF IN VIETNAM AFTER I WAS RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL AFTER BEING WOUNDED IN 1967.
HIS RIGHT LEG KEPT SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY AND HE WAS IN KIND OF A HYPER STATE, AS HIS EYES KEPT DARTING AROUND THE ROOM AND OUT THE WINDOW ETC. AND I FELT LIKE I NEEDED TO TALK TO HIM AND COMFORT HIM SOME WAY.
I ASK HIM WHERE HE HAD BEEN DEPLOYED AND HE TOLD ME HE WAS INVOLVED WITH THE FIRST INVASION OF IRAQ AND SUBSEQUENTLY AFGHANISTAN WHERE HE WAS THE VICTIM OF AN I.E.D. THAT KILLED ALL HIS FRIENDS AND WOUNDED HIM.
THEN, HE SAID THAT HE HAD JUST LOST HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN IN A HOUSE FIRE!!
WELL MY GOD, IT WAS NO WONDER THE POOR GUY WAS IN SUCH A HORRIBLE CONDITION!!
I PUT MY ARM AROUND HIM AND TOLD HIM HOW PROUD ALL OF US ARE OF HIS SERVICE OVER THERE AND HOW SORRY I WAS TO HEAR OF HIS LOSS.
I TOLD HIM I WOULD PRAY FOR HIM TO GET THE HELP HE NEEDED AND DESERVED.
THE DOCTOR THEN CALLED TO SEE HIM AND I WAS JUST SITTING THERE WITH TEARS COMING OUT OF MY EYES AS I THOUGHT ABOUT ALL THE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCES THIS YOUNG GUY HAD GONE THROUGH.
SOMEHOW, ALL MY OWN PROBLEMS BECAME MUCH LESS SIGNIFICANT.
I CAN’T GET THAT GUY OUT OF MY MIND AND I JUST PRAY HE IS GETTING THE HELP HE NEEDS!
WITH LOVE ALWAYS,
JIM
Good stuff, Matchett. Thanks for posting.
Ping!
Glad you enjoyed it, ss.
May those who died rest in peace.
BTW was anyone else offended that Zero was late - a full five minutes - at Arlington today?
I’m surprised he even bothered to be at Arlington today. The man has no clue.
I went to the Veterans Day Parade in downtown Houston today. A woman walked up to me and asked if I was a veteran. I told her I was and she handed me an envelope and said Thank you for you service and went on her way. Inside was a thank you note with the following words written by hand.
Dear Hero,
Ive often wondered how to show my sincere gratitude and appreciation for one has sacrificed so
much, one who has given so much, so I can be free. Thank you for your service and all you
have given so I, my children and future generations will be free. May God bless you and
keep you always.
With love and prayer,
Rececca Richards
This lady was sincere!
There were Occupy Houston protestors one block away from the parade route. My wife said Everyone of those people should be walking around thanking veterans for their right to protest.
Finally, there was an ARVN soldier in his old uniform watching the parade. Everytime the American flag passed he came to attention and saluted. Wow!
One of the first floats in the parade was “Goldstar Mothers”. Women who had lost children in the war were on the float. That made me and my wife both cry.
Great story!
For those of you that went earlier, I added two more videos for your review during this wonderful Veteran’s Day. The first is the Coast Guard theme song, which I completely missed earlier.
And the second is a five minute video on the Merchant Marine Academy. It’s helful in understanding what they do as a part of our military forces. Good information for those that don’t know.
And for those that do, I don’t want you going back to the site anyway. LOL!
Just kidding, ladies and gentleman. I respectfully thank each and every single one of you for your love of America and for not voting Obama/Biden in 2008!
Thank you...and you’re welcome, ma’am!
God bless you and thank you for your service, too!
