I don’t see anything wrong with what Newt is saying...

Anonymous accusations that are sealed and the woman involved is not going on the record or breaking the agreement is a hard thing to address...

If he comes out sharing what she alleged in the agreement, in order to defend himself, when SHE is not talking, or even named- he looks awful..

the gal is not allowed to talk, and is not asking to talk...he gets to go public with his side...it would feel unfair to any woman involved in real cases of real harassment...

Once there is a face and an actual story to react to— time to talk. And he made it clear last night that he was going to do just that.

ABC asked Herman today about Mitt saying the accusations were serious and disturbing. Herman agreed. They are serious, and they are disturbing. Hence the presser today to deal with it...

All these other candidate want this door shut...they are drowning for attention out there, meanwhile Herman Cain’s problem with name ID is no longer an issue, he is the lead story most every hour for over a week, he is raising money like crazy, and he is NOT dropping in the polls....

They are all eating their hats....they desperately want this to stop and back to the issues...Herman wants the same thing as well...

I am looking forward to the presser...

now I am hearing that Karen gal is coming forward to identify herself....she hopes her resume will help convince folks will find her credible....I don’t care about any of that until we find out EXACTLY what she believes would warrant an accusation of sexual harassment... I think her idea will be much different than most Americans will view as legitimate claims of harassment, hence her not wanting the confidentiality lifted...

I am thoroughly disgusted with the cowardice of the Republican Party. Vague anonymous charges of “sexual harassment” from 14 years ago, and sensationalized publicity stunts by inflated nymphomaniacs, should be laughed at by everyone.

Herman Cain should have every Republican leader line up to declare their support and denounce this transparent smear. I am especially disgusted with the Republican candidates for President. Why are they not publicly supporting Herman Cain, if just for his right to be innocent until proven guilty? There is a decidedly lack of character in all of our political leaders and especially with the media.

Character smears by baseless accusations that depend on the listener to form their own opinion from factless innuendos that are deliberately designed to lead one to think the worse, should be aggressively attacked by all freedom loving Americans. Why are so many here on FR ready to dump Cain because of what they are told to believe by a media who has been proven time and time again to have absolutely no ethics.

In the ‘90s, it was “sexual harassment” to comment on the looks of a woman; to open the door for a woman; to have a private conversation, where a woman “feels” violated, with the woman not even a party of the conversation; to stand in front of a woman; etc. If I say Rigid calendar, does that bring anything to mind to any of you????

Its not Newts fault that Cain is in this pickle. And I agree answer the questions so this can be put behind us this is not just about Cain its about who can lead this country out of this mess and time is being wasted answering all these bimbo eruptions.

Real Conservative defend the right, they do not pimp media smear jobs.

Once again Newt shows in a choice between fighting for Conservatives and political expediency, he will pick expediency every time

As someone who has been on the receiving end of the Democrat Party slander machine, Newt of all people should be standing with Cain, not helping slander him

AMEN, Brother! With the new polling just in, it sure looks like the folks love themselves some Herman Cain STILL! The MSM liberal and establishment lies are not working at all---actually it's HELPING!

Wow! Newt says exactly the right thing. Is absolutely truthful and comprehensive in his response--much of it based on his own personal experience with the MSM/Democrat Party rumor mill, and he is trashed by the Cainiacs on Free Republic. What a surprise.

Not only that, but you are attacked simply for posting the article. How fair, how objective, how rational these kool-aid drinking Cainiacs are. They epitomize the sort of level headed thinking and coldly rational examination I have always expected from conservatives. /rolleyes

Wait until someone posts what Mitt Romney said (These charges are "particularly disturbing" and must be addressed . . . how dare he make such an inflammatory remark?) . . . LOL!!!

What exactly did Gingrich say that you find so objectionable?

I’m confused, which slander?

That he was boffing future wife #2 before he was divorced from wife #1, or that he was boffing future wife #3 before he was divorced from wife #2? Or that he was boffing someone who worked for him on the hill while trying to get Clinton impeached for boffing someone who worked for him?

To answer I will use as example Newt's comment in a debate when asked what was the problem with Cain's 9-9-9 plan, [paraphrasing] I think we just witnessed it.

Herman Cain said his favorite number is 45. This could take awhile.

Bye Newt, just proved what we all were worried about. When it comes to standing up for Conservatives or political expediency, Newt will pick expediency.

Cain needs to answer these charges--they're actually charges of assault.

And Newt's right: Cain needs to be clear and believable.

Lately I'm not finding Cain to be either.

Well, you can add “Multiple Sclerosis wife”, because Newt dumped Marianne less than a year after she was diagnosed

Back away from the tabloids....Marianne does not have Multiple Sclerosis.
