Cain Must Confront Sex Harassment Issue By William J. Bennett, CNN Contributor November 7, 2011
William Bennett: Herman Cain should confront allegations of sexual harassmentHe says four women making such claims cannot be dismissed as insignificant If Cain is to be taken seriously, he needs to respond directly. Bennett says those who criticized Bill Clinton's behavior can't ignore issue
(CNN) -- When I became one of Bill Clinton's earliest and chief accusers for the sexual harassment charges against him, two things were eminently true about my motives: (a) I did not become an accuser because Bill Clinton was a Democrat and I was a Republican, I didn't care one whit what the partisan fallout would be; and (b) I spoke out because the charges were plentiful enough and serious enough (I repeat, charges, not facts) to degrade not only all of our politics but all of our country, and because there are certain codes of honor, written and unwritten, for all men, Democrat and Republican. Indeed I wrote a book on this, laying it out, even before we knew the full extent of Bill Clinton's lies.
It is hypocritical in the extreme for those members of the media who didn't take the charges and allegations against Bill Clinton seriously to be taking the allegations against Herman Cain that we now have as seriously as they are. Hypocritical is probably too soft a word, frankly. That said, Herman Cain and his campaign chief of staff, Mark Block, cannot go on as they have. There has been a pattern now that is both unhealthy for our politics and unhealthy for our polity.

Out of curiosity, I looked up the Franklin cover-up. I wish I hadn’t.
I didn’t think I could be more disillusioned than I already was. I was wrong.
I agree that Perfection, is the enemy of good.
Cain has a magic hand.
A drunken poor speaking La Raza Richard Cranium is a loser.
Good night FRiend.
Your sentence structure is immaculate.
Bennett needs to butt out. He has plenty of his own problems. He is a gambling addict. He blew over 8 million dollars. Cain should listen to nothing this guy has to say.
How do you know when Curt Anderson is lying? His lips are moving.
The 5th woman is a non-event from what I have seen. She claims Cain asked her to arrange dinner for another woman. She refused so Cain asked her to join him for dinner. She refused. I think all this happened in some distant location. If all this is true, seems to me that Cain was not anxious to dine alone. Another instance of “she said he said”. Cain is not crumbling though. I understand he gave a strong statement on Jimmy Kimmel show. He refuses to honor questions on innuendo’s.
Thank you for posting that. I had missed the show on TV. It is so obvious this has all been made up. I just wonder how far the RINOs and libs will be willing to go to make themselves look idiotic.
When you see him and his honesty, his ingenuousness (there is not an ounce of guile or calculation in him), his boundless optimism, you recognize his real strength. He is the perfect anti-establisment, anti-political, candidate. The exact opposite of Romney. The very antithesis of the bowing TOTUS Obama. He is the breath of fresh air this country needs.
BTW I don’t see a soul criticizing Cain over discussing the “Ryan’s Plan”
I offer mild criticism at this point because it was so blatant.
The Ryan’s plan, The Ryan’s plan.
I am not being critical of the mans intellect. I am just pointing out that Cain gets a pass for colloquialism while Perry get’s criticized.
After all, Perry is a tongue tied rube.
The same fellow that was Cains Campaign Manager during his run for the Senate?
Mr. Cain's problem is that he has been attacked by a vicious smear campaign. The timing coinciding with someone who formerly worked for Mr. Cain going to work for the Perry campaign a week before the attack is more than a little suspicious. But didn't Mr. Cain say that he accepted Gov. Perry's explanation? Everyone seemed ready to move on... and then we today we get round 2. At this point no one other than Perry supporters really seems to care whether or not Gov. Perry has had any involvement.
Round 1 may have been just a warm up. Round 2 is giving Mr. Cain a second chance to confront this crap. He said he would have done a few things differently if he had a second chance. So this may be more of an opportunity. If his interview with Jimmy Kimmel was any indication I think Round 2 will give him a chance to get this distraction cleanly behind him. So far there is little evidence that any of these attacks have actually done more than increased the public’s awareness of Mr. Cain and been a giant shot in the arm to his fund raising evidence.
Mylife, I do thank you for your concern and constructive criticism. But facing this type of unprecedented media attack is only making Mr. Cain a stronger candidate. I am sorry that your candidate has not been able to bounce back from his minor flub ups. There is still time and I understand that he has a lot of money left so please don't be discouraged.
He was terrific on Kimmel. Watch for yourself: http://www.therightscoop.com/the-herman-cain-does-late-night/
It seems like it’s making him stronger.
Here are some very recent statements by Curt Anderson. Please identify which are lies:
CNN Transcript with Curt Anderson:
"I really like Herman Cain. And I have a tremendous amount of respect for him.""[Herman Cain is] a great conservative leader. He's run a great campaign, and I really enjoy him. You know, you don't enjoy everybody you work with, but I really enjoy the guy."
"I'm not going to attack him in any sort of personal way or anything. "
"I'm not here to disparage Herman. I think hes a tremendous guy. And this is all an unfortunate mess."
"have great regard for the guy, and I think both he and all the other Republican candidates running would be a great improvement over our current president. I really do believe that."
"I think Herman, if he can get himself back to talking about the issues and the things that have put him in -- I mean, this guy is the front running candidate for the nomination to be president of the United States. And if he can get himself back into gear, I mean, he can recover."
"These allegations do not comport to the Herman Cain that I know. You know, I said in my statement yesterday, I have always known him as a gentleman and as a guy of strong character. So, no. "
"I know it sounds odd, but I mean, you know, it's true. He's a great candidate, by the way. And I knew it in that 2004 race."
"right now he is the frontrunner for the nomination of president of the United States. That is tremendous."
"They just don't ring true to the guy I know. Now, I don't know anything about it, so Im not going to be judge and jury on that, but it just doesn't comport with the Herman Cain that I know."
THOSE are the words of the man you now visciously smear as a liar -- given in an interview on the day both Cain and Block accused him of breaking a confidence and leaking a story he claims he didn't even know, (claims they have now retracted).
The interviewer tried several times to get Curt to say something bad about Cain, and he kept refusing. He wouldn't even let her characterize the attacks on him as lies. He defended Cain against the accusations.
And you smear him. So I ask -- was he lying about Cain being a great candidate? What do you thnk he lied about? Do you have links to him lying about anything? Ever?
Because I think if you are going to call a fellow conservative a liar (and a habitual one, by your statement), I think you aught to have some evidence for the charge.
Is Bill still playing around with little boys?
On the live thread, I may have remarked about Cain’s “The Ryan’s Plan” and Newt dropping the apostrophe S from “Godfather’s Pizza.”
“How do you know when Curt Anderson is lying? His lips are moving.”
Wow-for a guy who’s name has only been in the public eye for like a week, you sure claim to know all about him. Have you met him personally or something? How do you know him so well?
You're probably right on that one. People love to make fun of Texas accents. It used to infuriate me when Bush was criticized for saying "nucular", when the next day I'd hear some Democrat from Texas pronouncing it the same way.
It's nothing more than a regionalism just like up here we call soda "pop". Criticizing accents is truly the last refuge of the clueless.
Is this the same uncle Bill Bennett, who was all over Hannity’s show preaching and selling a book of family values, only to be caught, being a frequent gambler?
