The Racially Tinged Assault on Herman Cain
ResCon1 ^ | 3 Nov 2011 | John Guardiano

I was, I think, the first conservative to charge that Politico and the media were engaged in a “high-tech lynching” of Herman Cain.

Since that time (Sunday night), several influential conservative bloggers and writers have demurred. Race, they insist, has nothing to do with this story; and conservatives should stop “playing the race card.”

“Cain would have us believe his critics are racists,” declares Jennifer Rubin. And that “really sickens me,” emotes Quin Hillyer.

“If harassment was the sort of blanket smear of black conservatives that [Ann] Coulter [and others] suggest it is, you’d expect them, [other black conservatives], to have been smeared, too, by now,” adds Allah Pundit.

Are Rubin, Hillyer, Allah Pundit and other like-minded cons really this obtuse and this clueless? Do they really think that race has nothing to do with this story? Really? Where have they been for the past 25 years?

What does that have to do with anything? Are you telling me they wouldn’t have run the same reports if they had them on Rick Perry? Newt?

You only allow the left to play the race card don't you? When it applies in reality to a black conservative, just let it pass so they can come up with some more lies like pubic hairs on coke cans...what a laugh. Politics is not for the faint of heart of those without a backbone and that usually describes most republicans..The race card has been played AGAINST Cain several times in interviews by asking him racial questions they don't ask white candidates...that is playing the race card, answering the question is NOT playing the race card...

Were the white candidates asked about the niggerhead stone, ooops no, just Cain, thats playing the race card...get with the program and open your eyes.

I don’t care who plays the race card against Cain...he needs to be silent on that issue and not take the obama race baiting nibbles set on the table for him..he needs to be above that and not go there...period. Just call it what it is and say he’s not playing that game and stick to the issues at hand.

I agree with him. The race issue was NOT raised by Cain and he has every right to defend against it...You don’t seem to be able to tell the difference between playing the card and having it played against you.....

You have set out the perfect republican position...don't fight, just compromise and shut up...that's what we have in congress right now...time for it to end.

If you won't defend yourself, no one else will....a lie told long enough and loud enough becomes truth...The idea of race is not one to be silenced because some are made uncomfortable about it...you hit it head on.

You can talk issues and at the same time defend yourself. Like you can walk and chew gum at the same time....you have set forth a program for defeat. It seems your saying just shut up and move on. Sometimes that's not the right answer...

Oh baloney goat granny...Cains got enough on his plate without being played on the race card issue..and he should not address it as it's an obama bait and source of.

Furthermore ....I don't tote the party line on anything for them...or anybody else... I make my own decisions. And Cain should not go there at this time with the race cards...and would be wise not to. He;s not compromising or appeasing anybody by not addressing it...he's being smart..as a good President would do and not get in the gutter with that.

Cain will do well as he's been doing...not playing where they want him to play...but staying on his own message..and he needs to continue doing so.

He addressed it when asked.

He is not continuing to talk about it, but the MSM is the one that won't let it go..I like what he said to the media a couple of days ago that he is not answering their questions about harassment, he is going to talk to the group of doctors about other things, but he did address it when it was raised and then moved on.

That is good, but he could not afford to ignore such questions in the beginning. So far I have no problem with how he has handled things, but it seems that some think he should not have said anything, that would be a plan for defeat...The media will not let it go away, but so far he has played his cards right...

My problem is that some seem to think he should NOT have defended his reputation and integrity.

My problem is that some seem to think he should NOT have defended his reputation and integrity.

How many times does he need to defend the same thing he's already made his statment on? and how many times does he say he's moving on and then ,as today, he gives Hannity an hours program about the ordeal on the same stuff we've already heard him say. He needs to let it rest instead of fueling the flames.

Each time he answers to anyone the media runs with it all over again, and again and again....all spinning the heads of those who love scandals and dirt, and all with framing their own opinion of what went down, if anything.

I want to see Cain rise above this...yesterday would have been good...and he did so with the dignity he's carried before this nonsense. He's letting it get to him and he needs to stop letting it. He's on the hot seat and must pass this test and BE "presidential" about it.

It's no secret I like Cain very much...he just is not ready without being propped up... and I'm not so sure he's one to take the advice of those qualified to do that. I sure as heck don't want another one like Obama who is unwilling to hear advisers. That's why I've said over and over... ...It's not about the happenings and crisis....it's all about how Cain handles them ...with dignity and integrity and not playing into the bait traps layered for him...he's not doing so well in that respect. IMO

Can't compare to Thomas....no documents, no pay offs, no witnesses, no NRA, no settlements.... the facts hadn't been established but were to be found out.

In Cains case it's already said and done, and more-so if it is or not going to be revealed by the company and those involved. Very different ordeal. No comparison.

BTW Granny...I liked how Cain’s very first statement on the issue...calm, measured, confident and answered all that needed to be said. Went downhill thereafter and it makes me mad he could have simply refered to his statement and let the media do whatever...it easily could have been history by now.

Remember they tried the same thing with Perry...died fast too because he wasn’t going to play in that park. None should...history is just that..when it comes to peoples personal life...though it matters it does not need to be replaed over and over.

Just checking Tzar...there are many ifiltrators that come here to stir up trouble and I sus[ect more as the election draws near.... it is not always clear where people are coming from when they are new to the threads...their response to such a statement can often reveal where their heads at in that respect.

I agree: you shouldn’t play the race card, and Herman Cain hasn’t. But we who are not affiliated with his campaign certainly should acknowledge when the other side is playing the race card — and especially when they are doing so in a nasty and underhanded way.

And in fact, it is important that we do so: to help stop and deter this tactic from being used again.

The NRA did pay two settlements. That has been substantiated.
