Chris Matthews: Herman Cain Isn’t A Serious Candidate, Nor A Newspaper Reader
Mediaite ^ | November 2, 2011 | Alex Alvarez

This afternoon, Martin Bashir invited MSNBC colleague Chris Matthews onto is program to discuss both the personal and policy-related issues surrounding GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain‘s campaign.

Where policy is concerned, asked Bashir, “is Herman Cain a serious candidate for president?” Matthews’ response was simple, and blunt:

No. And the reason he’s not is he is not prepared even to the point of being a newspaper reader. I can tell — we all can — when someone is unfamiliar with a term like “neoconservative,” which has been at the heart of the whole debate over the war with Iraq, with of course the neoconservatives fighting very hard to wage that war and others opposed to them for that reason.

To not know that the Chinese have had, the PRC has had nuclear weaponry since the 60s is ignorance. These are facts of our fundamental national and international situation.

Bashir followed up by asking whether it’s become “hip to be dumb,” with Matthews nodding that, yes, it certainly is, and that Sarah Palin looks downright genius when compared to Cain. (For those of you who are busy being very hip: Chris Matthews doesn’t view Palin as one of our nation’s most brilliant minds.)

Matthews added that, while he encourages rhetoric meant to take elitist attitudes to task, he can’t support anti-intellectualism or anti-academic prejudice.

Have a look at their discussion, from MSNBC:

And to add insult to injury, I'll bet Cain hasn't read Crissy's new bio of Kennedy either.

Personally, I’d rather NOT have someone who gets his values from reading newspapers. We’ve had enough of them already in politics...

I don’t want Mitt to be the nominee and for a while post-Palin Cain was my choice, but for once Chris Matthews is correct.

Cain strikes me in some ways like the female businesswoman millionaires running for office in 2010. Fiorina, Whitman and McMahon all showed appalling political ignorance coming out of the shoot. But they at least learned what they were supposed to know something about and got sort of caught up.

Herman’s continued ignorance is distressing because 1) it is proving to be so vast and wide and 2) he seems not to be bothering to get up to speed until after 3) he has blamed the media for misrepresenting what he had said based on his somehow thinking something else was being referred to or he was referring to something else or whatever.

I could be all for an untraditional candidate, but Herman is increasingly appearing to be the worst of both worlds: a veteran lobbyist Washington insider who never bothered to really look or think about many political issues with any depth if at all.

IMO neither Cain nor Perry is an effective Mitt stopper or worthy presidential nominee.

“Herman Cain spent the Vietnam war evaluating the capabilities of the Chinese to deliver a nuclear weapon onto the heads of our forces in South Vietnam.

He examined the test launches of the Dongfeng 1 (SS-1) and plotted out the trajectories for a 500kg warheads.

When China started testing the Dongfeng 2 (CSS-1) Cain plotted out the trajectories and capabilities of it’s delivery of 15 kiloton nuclear weapons.

Both of these missiles were provided to the PRC by the Soviets, Cain analysed data from the Russian test launches and determined the risk to U.S. troops in SE Asia.

Cain also observed the development of China’s first domestically produced missile, Dongfeng 3 (CSS-2) and plotted out it’s use with China’s 15-20KT fissile devices as well as China’s new thermonuclear devices.

Finally, Cain was involved in the determination that China’s Dongfeng 4 (CSS-3) was capable of delivering both fissile and thermonuclear devices to both Moscow and Guam as well as cover the entire deployment of U.S. forces in SE Asia.

Cain is well aware of China’s nuclear missile capability, the only reasonable conclusion is that Cain was indeed referring to China’s attempts to develop and sail their first nuclear aircraft carrier and their attempts to develop more dangerous nuclear cruisers.”

Chris “tingle down my legs” Matthews is a draft-dodging, anti-American leftist who has no credability whatsover. Who cares what this 70 year girly man has to say about anything.

(Re: Kindle) I heard that a few years ago, in the years BK. I thought it was funny because of the desperate sound of it, as if it were the last reed the ink-stained wretches had to cling to. Now with Kindle, the poor so-and-sos have lost even that.

At least you have a decent sports page. I live near Nashville and their newspaper (and tv and radio) coverage is awful.
