My grandfather apparently told the story that as a young man on a cross country train trip, a fellow in the next set of seats noticed that he had a roll of NECCOs, and asked for one. "What flavor?" my grandpa asked. "Doesn't matter," says the man. He takes the waver and wedges it under the window on the train car. Apparently, the windows, like the schoolbus windows of my era, Click Locked at five and ten inches, so this fellow used a NECCO to hold the window open just an inch. If it rained while he was napping...the tasteless pseudo candy would melt, and close the window without human intervention!
I have had the things in my life, and in my opinion they are nasty. But if I ever need to hold open a traincar window, I will know what to do!
