I saw the grisly footage of Qaddafi’s murder on television. I had first to turn off the sound. Then, ashamed, I turned off the television. I have nothing more to say than that I am appalled that my country had anything to do with this grotesque caricature of justice. Actually, to call it a grotesque caricature of justice is to trivialize it. I have no words for it.
I’m not naive and I realize that the U.S. has taken part in assassinations, killings, etc., but there is something about this that simply takes my breath away. I want nothing to do with it. I’m in a complete state of dissociation with our political leaders, Republican and Democrat. I am thoroughly disaffected.
I’m not exactly mourning Qaddafi’s death. He was a very bad man who killed Americans. But what do you do? He seems to have reformed a bit in latter years. He stuck to his treaties and stopped baiting the U.S. He even said a few conciliatory, realistic things about Israel. I’m not saying this turned him into a Good Guy, but it showed he was sane. Now he’s gone and we’re supposed to rejoice? No thank you! Libya will turn to hell.
I do not believe I am alone in feeling so disgusted with just about everything, except my own life, which is going rather well. So I can’t be accused of generalizing my own misery. I am not miserable. Our politics is.

Had things played out like this while Bush was president they would be outside the White house now demanding his extradition to the Hague.
Along with every other nation rejoicing in the "Arab spring."
The Obama radicalization of the mideast makes mohammad look like a piker.
Sometimes I wonder if some of the angels said behind closed doors, “you know, I kind of wonder if Lucifer got a bad rap. I mean he isn’t really that bad once you get to know him”.

I’m appalled, too. I’m appalled at some of the cruel and inhuman things some of our forebears did in Europe who knows how far back? I don’t think Americans did it but they enabled it.
People who want to make more of it than it's worth forget that this fascist pig murdered innocent civilians ~ he bombed commercial passenger airplanes ~

Arab Spring is not for the faint of heart.
My name for 2011 is Year of the Angry Mob, from the Arab Spring uprisings to the Wisconsin public employee unions to flash mobs looting stores to Occupy Wall Street/Cleveland/The Tundra, etc., to so many other local incidents, e.g., protests v. “police brutality” in Fullerton, crowds outside of courtrooms threatening defendants (Casey Anthony) or prosecutors, depending; marches demanding “rights” more than ever.
The more these angry mobs get their demands met, the more we will see them as “solutions.”
You may have felt differently if your kid had been on Pan Am Flight 103 in '88. And a lot of kids were on that flight -- 35 Syracuse students were on their way back from a semester studying abroad. A friend of mine who was attending Syracuse at the time knew a couple of them.
Kaddafi was a terrorist -- a piece of camel turd, just like Bin Laden. And I don't give a rip how he was killed. Would you've minded seeing Mussolini strung up in 1945 without a trial? I certainly wouldn't have. Trials aren't always necessary for justice to be served.
Eight year ago the United States made peace with Kaddafi, and put paid to the history between our two countries, including the Lockerbie bombing. The best and the brightest hailed this peace as a wonderful vindication of Bush’s foreign policy. U.S. officials including Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Sen. John McCain, and President Obama had friendly meetings with Kaddafi over the years, speaking of their desire to advance the two countries’ bilateral relationship.
Kaddafi never violated his agreements with us and never became a threat to us or our allies. He spoke in the warmest terms of the United States and of Obama. Yet the instant that people whom we chose to call democrats rose up in rebellion against him, our ideology and what we perceived as our political self-interest required that we side against him. We attacked his country, bombed his military and his government, bombed his residence, drove him from power, and now we have killed him.
I will not become a moral relativist and make the despicable statement, which some on the anti-war right and the European New Right have made in the past, that the U.S. is as immoral as the Soviet Union. Nevertheless, there is now significant and terrible overlap between the behavior of the U.S.S.R and the behavior of the United States. We are not a moral state; we are not a state under the rule of law. We are, as Solzhenitsyn said of the Soviet Union, an ideological state, a state that will do anything, violate any agreement, betray any ally or friend, tell any lie, cover up any truth, in order to advance its ideology and its power that is associated with that ideology.

Libya has just gone from the cruel dictatorship of one man to the cruel dictatorship of an ideology.
BTW the interim government has already told us to forget about them handing over al-Magrehi. So much for justice.
We have boots on the ground, spec ops and air controllers. If we wanted al-Magrehi it would be a simple matter. Could he be any more difficult to find then Qaddafi? I think not!

I can't read any further. I will surely puke. You ARE a moral relativist. The monster killed far more people than Charlie Manson ever did. If Manson started speaking in warm terms of the US and Obama, would you have us commute his sentence? All is forgiven? What about justice? What about the innocent people who died in the Lockerbie bombing?
I'm only sorry it took this long and Obama gets some of the credit.

Even when the US was fighting pirates off Africa, after having spent a large portion of the federal budget for years trying to bribe them to leave our ships alone, federal judges in the US wanted the US Navy, fighting the pirates, whenever they captured some, to transport them back on our few warships, leaving the battle, just so that the judges could try them in court.
What utter nonsense. British ship captains, doing the same thing as our captains, were permitted to try pirates on the spot, and hang them on their own ships, then set to slowly sink.
So US ships captains, when they would capture pirates, suddenly began to note that they had captured them in the British patrol areas, so the pirates had to be turned over to the British for hanging.
The bottom line is that Qaddafi was a murderous tyrant, who likely ordered the bombing of an aircraft, killing 270 people, most of whom were American soldiers. He died because the people of his nation, oppressed under his long and brutal reign, hated him with burning ferocity.
Trial? To hell with that idea. The only regret for Libyans is that they didn’t get to slowly torture him to death.
It also makes me sneer about the political leaders who condemned his killing, because they are deeply afraid of “regicide”, and can imagine the noose around their own necks. Cowards who think themselves to good and important to be killed like peasants they without hesitation send to war to die just as ingloriously.
