Like it or not, Kadaffi (who knows how it spelled!) kept a group of warring tribes from each others’ throats, through bribery and intimidation. We’ll see what the new overlords do to keep peace; we’ll see if France and Italy get their oil, or if sabotage puts a damper on that.

So have various communist dictators, Tito in Yugoslavia for one.

Was it Tacitus who said something like, "They made a desert and called it peace"? Some things never change, as the Preacher saaid long ago, "There is nothing new under the sun".
