It found 59% of his fellow Texans including 43% of Democrats are against the policy.

I would ask these people what changed their minds, since they evidently supported it before this year. This deal passed the Texas Legislature with almost 100% of the vote. I think it's safe to say the Texas Legislature would not have passed this if 60% of the people were against it.

Back in 2001, Perry spoke out in favor of open borders and nobody got upset about it. He didn't even have a serious Republican contender in the 2002 primaries. Times were different then. In 2007, Perry argued in favor for the legislation when Republicans in the legislature were talking about overturning it. If Perry were smart or not so tied down by his donors, he would have saw which way the wind was blowing and pretend that he had no choice in 2001, but here we are in 2011 and he's still defending it.

Forgot to add, Texas was a Democratic state not too long ago, and there were plenty of Democrats still around in 2001. They've been replaced with RINOs. The Democrats will probably make a pretty quick comeback in the next decade or so - Hispanics are about to pass up whites in numbers, and Republicans in Texas seem to have a hard time appealing to them at times.

Huh? The legislature that passed that stink bomb got their asses kicked in the 2010 midterm elections. A whole lot of them were sent packing. Want to hazard a guess as to why?
