Grocery Outlet had 16 oz jars of Jiff for a buck the other day, and I bought a few. Maybe I’ll buy a few more.

"A year from now, most people will be calling 2007 the “good old days”

When everyone could afford to have their own jar of peanut butter. Those were the days...I have peanuts growing in the fields all around me presently, some are being harvested now.

Peanuts are the main crop of many west African nations but like sugar we aren't allowed to import them. I'm all for American agriculture, but limiting competition to sustain unnaturally high prices doesn't help farmers or consumers in the long run.

Crops with high forced pricing are over planted and the market becomes saturated forcing US farmers to dump the excess on the global market. This leads to farm losses in other countries due to depressed market values and shortages in their food supply once cheap imported crops are used.Governments in these nations try to protect their nation from a recurrence by banning imports and initiating price subsidies which starts it all over in a different locale.

I'm just a novice in all things economic and have only in the past 10 yrs. started paying attention and reading up on it.I've read some books by Walter E. Williams,Thomas Sowell, Milton Friedman, and Friedrich Hayek and am just starting to realize what was left out of my public school and community college education. I welcome all criticism, correction and enlightenment on this subject as I find myself fascinated by it.

Interesting comment to leave on a survival/preparedness thread.

PB is calorically dense, high in fat, a decent source of protein, has the capacity for relatively long-term storage, and is inexpensive. It is a staple for your food stores, if you have them.
