As usual, most everyone wants to claim he/she is the good guy; so too, everyone presumes to define what their particular brand is of American, patriotism, conservatism, libertarianism, jeffersonianism, etc, etc.

Myself, I’ll choose from among the definitions of the Jeffersons, Tafts, Goldwaters, Reagans, Pauls, etc.

Now and then a Joe SixPak or two come along who shine from those among the herd. Those too!
Thank GOD!

The nuance of the picture is obviously lost one you, so I will try to use words you can understand. If the idea of “less government” in the sense that Ron Paul advocates appeals to you, you really would be better off frequenting a site like Freedom Post, and organizing your political opinions there. If you accept government as the necessary response to humanity's inherent flaws, but advocate that is be as small and unobtrusive as is practical, the sense that Rush Limbaugh (and Ronald Reagan before him) advocates, then you are probably a conservative, and will find this website ideal.

Jefferson is the most misunderstood historical figure in American politics. His own views were in direct opposition with those of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, Ben Franklin, John Jay, and James Madison. Its no coincidence that every modern liberal president has listed Jefferson as a personal hero. Modern conservative presidents who have either disowned the man or indicated lukewarm feelings include Teddy Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, and George Bush. Jfk, Bill Clinton, and Barak Obama couldn't stop talking about the guy.

I don't presume to define libertarianism, conservativism, or "jeffersonianianism" (whatever the hell that is). I reconize libertarianism and conservatisim as distinct political philosophies within the jacket of Republicanism. You should too. This is not rocket science. This is, however, a conservative website, not a Republican one. Instead of wasting everone's time trying to convice people who know better that libertarianism is a more pure form of conservatisim, you would get better use of your time and your benighted posts on a place like Freedom Post. Ronald Reagan's conservatism obviously does not appeal to you.
