If it hadn’t been Columbus it would have been someone else. Europeans didn’t conquer the Americas. The smallpox virus did.
Columbus worked for the Spanish Crown
What happened in America in the 1500’s is something that has ALWAYS happened and will continue to happen all over the world by one group on another group.
One culture/race will move in and superscede the other culture causing chaos and eventually the reduction or elimination of the previous culture.
To say that Coloumbus was the only one is to compeletly ignore the rest of history of the world.
The first time this happened with modern humans as far as we can tell was the “occupation” of Europe by Homo Sapiens Sapiens (Modern Man) over Homo Sapiens Neadertals (Neaderthals).
It has happened, it will happen again.
While I think all the protests against Columbus are stupid, I also think Columbus Day is pretty dumb. He didn’t discover America he discovered the Bahamas,. and he wasn’t even the first European here by a long shot, wasn’t even the first to establish intercontinental trade. He was just the first one to not see that trade end in a few decades, which really had nothing to do with him and everything to do with Europe’s growing colonialism, which he wasn’t even at the forefront of.
Yet still in NYC, yesterday, the city which is still have those pesty OWS protesters had its yearly Columbus Day parade.
I thought this was going to be about the Ohio State Football program.
