Chuck Heath, Jr., brother of Gov. Sarah Palin, has provided the statement below to Big Government and Big Journalism:
"The McGinniss book is filled with one lie after another. The final straw for me was when I learned that he used me as a source for his lies about my sister and brother-in-law’s marriage. He included in his book comments falsely attributed to me by one of his unnamed sources. Neither McGinniss nor Crown/Random House reached out to me to verify, or even comment on, this alleged hearsay from an unnamed source. They just ran with it, and as a consequence, the tabloids picked it up and used it to fuel false rumors about my sister getting a divorce. All of this is a total lie, and I’m sick of seeing my sister, her family, and our extended family being trashed by smear-merchants like Joe McGinniss and his publisher."

Yes. I had read this statement quoted, but I think this is the original source. I had not seen Chuck's picture or the picture of the family. AND the most important part, look at the comments section. It shows the depth of disgust with McGinnis and the press in general.

I have no problem with you posting the article. My point was that comments made by a family member 4 days ago can’t be considered “Sarah still whining...”

There’s a lot of ways to hurt a company that does things like that. I hope she continues to hold Random House up to ridicule. Why are you so hot that she gets tied up in a lawsuit?

The comments quoted are from Sarah Palin's brother, Chuck Heath, complaining that Joe McGuinniss used his (Chuck's) name to attribute statements that he never made. He has the grounds for a lawsuit. Sarah Palin has not done any 'whining' but she has every right to be angry with McGuinniss and his publisher. As a 'public figure', Sarah Palin doesn't have much chance of a successful lawsuit and she would have to prove McGuinniss lied about her with malice, which he did, but that is very difficult to prove in court.
In any case, criticizing Sarah Palin for not suing McGuinniss seems rather odd for someone claiming they 'love' Palin. She has not 'whined' about McGuinniss but basically dismissed him for the creep that he is.
Frankly, it just doesn’t matter what the truth is, anymore...
The lies, half-truths and distortions in this book are already out there, accepted as fact by the vast majority of people who only scan the headlines, and facebook news postings.
A sad commentary on today’s society, isn’t it...
