Perry turned off a lot of conservatives last night. It will be difficult to win them back. That was one of the worst performances I have ever seen in a GOP debate.

From what I have read and heard, today, yes, the Perry BUBBLE is over................except for his diehard fanatics.

He’s not toast yet.

But he will be toast when people find out Perry is for amnesty for the illegals (he would give the illegals working here “guest worker” status allowing them to live here legally).

What he needs to do is a sincere, credible flip-flop on his illegal immigration positions.

He would be more viable as a flip-flopper than as a pro-illegals candidate.

Chris Christie could change everything.

I was supporting Perry (with Palin sidelined) for the past 4 weeks. After last night, no longer.

You don’t call me “heartless” and expect my vote.

We can certainly hope so after last night. Time for a CONSERVATIVE that can win to enter the race- and by that I mean Sarah, NOT Christie.

Yeppers. He lost the Tea Party concerning the illegal immigration issue. That’s a major biggie as far as his support base and it really is that simple.

Perry is AGAINST illegal immigration.

It is a shame he had such a lousy performance last night, but people keep mixing apple and oranges on this in state tuition thing.

Perrys position is that we are better off educating these kids than ignoring them.
He has repeatedly pointed out that it is the federal Government that is the obstacle to deportation.

Yep, I went from leaning Perry to desperating wanting Jim DeMint to run. Won’t vote for Oil Windfall Profit Tax Palin though.

After his answer to the in state tuition question, he should be given credit for honesty, he has to be toast.

To nominate the elect him when knowing exactly where he stands on the issue of benefits for illegals would be to ask for his policies on a national level.

First of all, the issue is ILLEGAL immigration, NOT immigration. Don’t fall for the liberal tactic!

Secondly, Perry lost me last night. I was really pulling for him but his view on illegal immigration is unacceptable. I am not usually a one issue person but it appears he is SO bad on the issue that as far as that goes we may as well keep obama.

I am really disappointed. Nobody is perfect but this is really bad. It would be extremely difficult for me to turn around on this. Perry would have to have a complete shifty on this and it would have to be real. And what is worse is the condescending way he answered the question about in state tuition - saying you don’t have any heart if you don’t agree with him - with friends like that who needs enemies. I can go to dem underground to get THAT crap!

One thing we have to remember, at this very moment in 2008, the two leading candidates were Fred Thompson and Huckabee. We were not even thinking McCain as a serious contender at the time. Lots yet still to happen, and front runner can come and go.

The field of candidates that will enter the race is not yet filled out. The fact that Christie is being courted is testament to that, and if I read the papers right Daniels is still being courted to join in, no matter what his family says.

And if Palin gets in the mix, expect the fireworks to really start going off...................

I’d made a few attempts to convey Perry’s rotten history here in Texas on the border/illegals front, having followed him all these years. It’s always been my MAJOR sticking point with him, invariably offsetting some of the ‘good’ things he has done, like tort reform and voter-id.

But even I’ve been amazed to actually see him reveal himself so vividly with comments like “the sound of their last names” and “you have no heart.” That’s some REALLY, REALLY infuriating stuff. Basically referring to anyone who disagrees with him as heartless bigots. He’s often been on a knife’s edge with me over the years, but this pretty much did it.
