Rick Perry Says I Have No Heart
Ward World ^ | 09/23/2011 | Kevin A Ward

Posted on 09/22/2011 9:59:08 PM PDT by kevinaw2

I have desperately been waiting for a true conservative to step up to the plate and win me over. I had thought Rick Perry was the guy. On the issues as a whole I’m in Perry’s corner. I would prefer his position on the issues to go forward as our standard, but then there was his defense of Texas’ “Dream Act”.

I respect Rick Perry defending his position on illegal immigration. He stuck to his guns despite its being a liability in Republican primaries. Most voters disagree with him, but he defended it. Ok. That’s why we have debates after all.

It was his concluding statement that has infuriated me. He defended his position by stating that those who oppose his position “have no heart”. Really? No heart? Rick Santorum jumped on this to his credit.

Rick Perry is free to defend his position as he sees it on the merits, but to suggest his critics are heartless is right out of the liberal textbook. As conservatives it is bad enough that we must endure such assaults from liberals and their acolytes in the mainstream media, but we’ve come to expect that and have effectively rebutted this view. But from Rick Perry? A conservative Republican Governor of Texas to criticize a dissenting view to label his conservative critics “heartless”? I would expect that from Barack Obama or Bill Clinton or Michael Moore, but from the front runner in a contest for President?

When it comes to politics, I can be as jaded and as cynical as they come in spite of an overall sense that we can overcome every obstacle. What Rick Perry said was an affront, an insult to every conservative who has ever had the indignity of being called “heartless”. I don’t agree with Rick Perry on the policy in question, so in his world I have no heart. That’s not politics, that’s personal to me. If Governor Perry insists upon employing liberal talking points to further his agenda, then maybe he should’ve remained a registered Democrat and stopped wasting my time in a Republican primary.

Man, I’m with you on that, Bro. FReeper. That stupid term “compassionate conservatism” was so condescending and insulting, it made me see red everytime I heard it, even though I loved Dubya. But he really did let us down in a lot of ways. Glad he was in office when he was, but .... “compassionate conservatism” — ptuey!

Sarah Palin has no business being any where close to the WH.You vote for her and you get O’bama then he can finish this country off.

A blog that speaks the truth. Your guy Perry committed political seppuku last night. There’s nothing you can do to pull this piece of crap out of the punch bowl.

Oh, and all of these polls that are all reporting that the majority of the GOP don't want Sarah to run are full if sh*t!

Take heart!

Sorry but Palin is even less articulate than Perry. We don’t need 2 fumblers during the debates.

Really...?

You have to admit though, Perry's level of intellect and integrity on this is not different in any way than the people who support him.

He is their guy because this is their thought.

I love the way Texans are getting slammed here on FR lately with comments like big ego’s and talking out they’re hat. Most of those doing the slamming have no idea what we face daily as a border state. Rush daid the same thing on his show the other day, he also made the comment that we can lose TX or we can lose CA but we can’t lose them both and defeat Obama.

Not voting, or voting for a socialist presented by the two major parties are not the only two options.

Pray for peace, prepare for war, vote for a conservative even if you have to write one in.

He's actually done it a few times. I call it a part of that demagogic, sentimental call to action: Compassionate Conservatism. Didn't work for Bush, won't work for Perry.

A debater he is not. More has to be done to improve his short form answers.

Telling the truth would be an improvement.

Let the states do Social Security...I didn't write that, OK I wrote it but I didn't mean it the way it reads.

You bet I'm for giving ILLEGAL ALIENS a $ 22,000 per year, in state tuition discount so they can go to college, but if you are an American Citizen from Arkansas or Alaska or Arizona, piss off.

Maybe I took a few thousand dollars {$ 28,500} from Merck, but their donations had nothing to do with my Executive order that forced every young girl in Texas to use a pill supplied EXCLUSIVELY by Merck.

Yep, your boy needs work on his short term answers.

“Honestly, Perry’s views are selling nationally, but conservatives apparently want Romney, according to FOX, the Luntz forum, NRO ONLINE, with plenty of help from useful idiots all over the place.”

Being honest and saying that Mitt won the debate last night in someones’ opinion is not necessarily “wanting him” but could simply be their opinion of who did the best among all of the debating candidates. I thought Cain won, Gingrich second and Mitt third but then I don’t like Mitt so I am not objective.....he may have won.

Perry lost me with that commment. I guess I don’t have a heart either, because I am opposed to rewarding the crimes of illegal alien invaders with ANY benefits, and I believe that anyone who disagrees doesn’t have a BRAIN.

There are millions of Americans who have trouble paying for college. Why should tax dollars be STOLEN from them to pay for illegals’ tuition?

Before this, I had some issues with Perry but found him more or less acceptable, and believed he had the best chance of beating Hussein. Now, I will NEVER vote for him. He just joined my RomneyZone of Republicans who I will never vote for.

The fact that you protest of words that were clearly a metaphor shows otherwise.

By the way I lived for 5 years in Corpus. Good people. And being extra proud of one’s state instant a bad thing it’s a trait common to good people those from Alabama and Tennessee share it (though Texans beat either them hands down)and I found the vast majority of them to be good people too, but it does make them a bit blind to the needs and desires of people from elsewhere. Now I am a transplant here in New Mexico and I am very proud of our Hispanic Governor Susana Martinez who has way more ‘balls’ on taking on illegals than even your favorite Texan Rick Perry.

When a man’s an empty kettle he should be on his mettle,
And yet I’m torn apart.
Just because I’m presumin’ that I could be kind-a-human,
If I only had heart.
I’d be tender - I’d be gentle and awful sentimental
Regarding Love and Art.
I’d be friends with the sparrows ... and the boys who shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart.
