Sarah Palin has joined the manic bashing of General Electric, calling the conglomerate "the poster child of corporate welfare and crony capitalism."
One day after Elizabeth Warren said that GE "pays nothing in taxes" as part of her announcement that she would run for the U.S. Senate to represent her home state of Massachusetts, Palin -- the former half-term governor of Alaska, cable stalwart and perennial fence-sitting would-be presidential candidate -- said that the company "pays virtually no corporate income taxes."
Palin said nothing about reforming the tax code to address the tax credits claimed by General Electric. Palin quickly steered her piece to Solyndra, the Fremont, California solar panel manufacturer that went out of business in August after receiving a $535 million in federal loan guarantees from the Department of Energy. Solyndra's offices were raided by the FBI last week, as agents executed search warrants as part of the Department of Energy's investigation of the company.
GE responded by saying that people accusing the firm of "crony capitalism" don't "want the facts to get in the way of their political rhetoric." The company also said that it had "announced the creation of 8,000 new US jobs, 7,000 of which are manufacturing jobs," since 2009, and that it was "the nation's second-largest exporter because we have invested billions of dollars in technology."
Responding further to charges of being "in bed" with the government, GE said that last year, only 4% of its revenue came from the U.S. government, and "of that, 75 percent was the result of jet engines that we provide to the U.S. military."
Regarding the charges of not paying any taxes, the company said it "actually paid significant taxes in 2010 for previous years and $1 billion in state, local and other taxes," and that its "tax rate was low in 2010 because we lost $32 billion in our financial services business during the global financial crisis."
GE in bed with the Obama administration? Why, I’m shocked! Next your going to tell us there is gambeling going on in this casino!
. Guard the Borders!! .... "Gard a sil?"
Yeah, gotta throw in the snarky little jabs to try and discredit anything she says. Saul Alinsky would be proud!
Isn’t a governor’s term FOUR years? Didn’t Governor Palin serve THREE years of that FOUR year term? Wouldn’t that be accurately a THREE-QUARTER term as Governor of Alaska rather than the HALF-TERM that the leftists like to adamantly state?
“manic bashing”? Give me a break.
How about the fact that her service was significantly more valuable than most governors who serve ten years.
Gotta call from my financial adviser this morning. He said that things look bad for GE down the road (loans become due, investments in “green energy” not looking good, problems in Europe, etc.) and he was advising clients to sell their stock before it craters and he was doing the same. Suggested that I increase my investment in gold which I agreed to. I respect his advice as he is a valued friend as well as financial adviser who has made my upcoming retirement years financially easier.

She was ready to quit on the Alaskan people and hitch her star to John McCain in her first two years. Three years in and she was gone.
People don't wonder if Palin will be part of a permanent political class, they wonder if she'll stick around the finish the job.
If Palin sincerely thinks the permanent political class is harmful and needs to be changed, then your entire comment is meaningless.
You’ll have to develop one of two premises that there is no such thing as a permanent political class, or that Sarah Palin has a record showing her to be insincere or dishonest.
The 23,000 emails have already been read—they were clean.
Your argument fails because neither premise is true.
GE’s “tax rate in 2010 was low because...”. I’d say it was!
This article snarkily ignores the fact that Palin started this conflagration against crony capitalism and she explicitly said in her Indianola speech that she’d offset the elimination of the corporate tax with the elimination of all corporate subsidies, etc..
Ms. Warren is piggybacking on Gov. Palin’s lead, not the opposite.
Yes. Governor Palin was a good Governor of Alaska. That’s why the communists and other leftists in this country are scared of her.
They just KNEW that if they could get her e-mails released, they’d find grammatical errors, stupidity, and all sorts of corruption to boot. Wrong! Ever wonder WHY that issue became suddenly quieted down as soon as they were able to peruse the e-mails at their own leisure (hungrily you may be sure)?
This latest gossip book by the guy who moved in next door to the Palin family and spied on them, sounds like some gossipy old lady dishing fabricated dirt on her latest project. ‘Cause, Lord knows, Barack Hussein Obama, Pelosi and Reid have done such a bang up job, we daren’t try any other option (such as someone like, say, Reagan), dare we?
The left is going to destroy ANY decent, God fearing person who challenges their corrupt commie candidates.
