Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass state laws across the country mandating Gardasil for girls as young as 11 or 12. It doubled its lobbying budget in Texas and has funneled money through Women in Government, an advocacy group made up of female state legislators around the country.
...SNIP...
Perry has ties to Merck and Women in Government. One of the drug companys three lobbyists in Texas is Mike Toomey, Perrys former chief of staff. His current chief of staffs mother-in-law, Texas Republican state Rep. Dianne White Delisi, is a state director for Women in Government.
The governor also received $6,000 from Mercks political action committee during his re-election campaign.
The order is effective until Perry or a successor changes it, and the Legislature has no authority to repeal it, said Perry spokeswoman Krista Moody. Moody said the Texas Constitution permits the governor, as head of the executive branch, to order other members of the executive branch to adopt rules like this one.

Please educate yourself, lest we think you really did lose those 80 IQ points without having them to spare. The issue is a multi-pronged one. It has to do with cronyism, nanny-statism, and political arrogance. That is what people are up in arms over.
...and people are stroking over one man who has acknowledged this decision was a mistake.
Not before he used Obama-like demagoguery against those who were voting to override him, calling them shameful spreaders of misinformation who were putting womens lives at risk. Some admission of a mistake there.
So then YOU DO ADMIT there was an opt-out option........Thank you, end of argument.
It says a lot about his character that he signed an executive order regarding a disease that is not communicated except by sex, implying all Texas girls are sluts, and mandating a possible life sentence of French Polio as a side effect.
The only one doing that here is the one overlooking the cronyism, nanny-statism, and political arrogance of Perry's actions in this case and talking about having 'the debate focused on the merit of the vaccination'.
Where O’ where has your outrage over forced vaccinations been the past 50 or 60 years???? Or, are you just selectively outraged because Perry puts a bug up your arse?
You know, I really must stop expecting more from FReepers than this type of trumped up garbage. Where has your outrage been the past 50 or 60 years of government forced vaccinations?
Let me know when HPV is the same as Smallpox.
This guy is exactly the Governor we DON’T need.
There is a pattern.
Here’s a good article to start with:

That doesn’t detail everything.
I guess you didn’t have them to spare. Sorry.
Apparently, on this thread at least, we’re in the minority. I guess all the forced government vaccinations the past 50 or 60 years have all been great decisions, and this one lone incident is sufficient to have Perry burned at the stake.
Your straw man argument won’t work here.
My take on all this, is that Merck knew Glaxo Smith-Klein was going to have a product out in the near future, and wanted to get everyone vaccinated before a competitor could reap some of the profits.
Not every vaccination is mandatory. What’s upsetting about this particular one is that the vaccine was only out for 8 months and the recipient of a basically untested vaccine were 12 year olds.
I was too. But they’re all essentially in ‘boot camp’ right now. I think they will emerge very well prepared to take on the Teleprompter in Chief.
Sweet! Love the image!
Ouch!! Hope none of her attack dogs decipher that!!
Would you like someone to tell you where to put it?
Yep, I read this a while back. The opt out is a nightmare. Those who act like it was easy to do are misinformed or all out liars.
One would be Perrys cozy relationship with Muslims.
Right in Captain Gardasil’s big ole choclate wizwag will be fine.
