Governor Palin is Not Your Father’s Republican

This week the NY Times finally noticed that Gov. Sarah Palin is not a typical Republican. They seemed “shocked” to discover that she stands in sharp opposition to the abusive alliance between Big Business and Big Government practiced by so many Republicans for decades.

So is it any wonder that typical Republicans aren’t on board with her?

As case in point, former vice president Dick Cheney was on the Laura Ingraham show discussing the requirements he felt were necessary in being a vice president, at which Laura brought Palin onto the table. Cheney replied that unanswered questions remain about Palin, especially in regard to her resignation from the governorship.

Dick Cheney contributed a lot to the country, but no one can deny he is a long-time member of the “Good Old Boys Club.”

Yes, he has and we should appreciate Cheney for his dedication to his career. But, he and other "good conservatives" have been trapped inside a system that has done great harm to our country. Even is they aren't corrupt themselves, corruption has been a part of everyday life inside government. Cheney and others have tried to finesse around the corruption as best they could, imo. However, unless we remove the roots of corruption, it'll go on unabated. Palin understands that, so do we who support her.

What’s all this stuff about Palin it is not like she is running for President or anything? Did I miss the memo here?

You missed the meme, not the memo. There is no memo, only the knee jerk commentary of the corrupt establishment.

You know she is! But don't be expecting a memo for the official announcement, it'll be an earthquake under the feet of the establishment elites. :)

Sarah has them all spinning like tops because she interferes with their agenda. But, I love it that Cheney is a bit unsettled by her. Just shows she stirs up both sides of the aisle and I can’t think of anything we need more right now.

Well, to paraphrase Nick Lowe, from the establishment elite, it's not "Cool to be Kind" to Sarah Palin. Give them time. I believe she has the support from the regular folks to get her the nomination. The GOP establishment will, for the most part, follow our lead after that. Begrudgingly, perhaps.

It’s time for conservatives to wake up and realize that the majority of the “permanent political class” will do just as Cheney has done and not necessarily from evil intentions to destroy her. They have simply been in Washington for far too long and see Palin’s image of reform, which is supported by conservative common-sense Americans, as delusional and impossible. Despite their having heard of Palin’s unbelievable reform accomplished in Alaska, it is too difficult for them to imagine it actually happening in D.C. itself. On top of that, crony capitalism is so deeply entrenched in Washington psyches that it has affected most members of both parties who fear an end to the partying and powers they’ve become accustomed to due to a future President Palin.

Very good point. A systems man like Cheney, despite his good qualities, can't figure out what's entailed by really challenge the status quo. They're used to using Sarah's words as ad slogans, as "product" differentiation to make Republicans more electable. Sarah Palin bears the scars from really threatening the crony-capitalist system, and people like Cheney can't quite figure it out.

As she mentioned in her speech, Abraham Lincoln was thought a fool. The people who said he was, the insiders of his time, didn't say it because they had it in for him. They meant it. In Canada, there's an old slogan - one that might as well be the slogan of the permanent political class: "Loose cannons fall off the deck." Systems people take that to heart, so they're bound - condemned - to see real challenges of the status quo as fools' errands. As beating your head against a brick wall.

That's why people like Cheny can't figure her out. They know she's a very good politician: she went all the way up from Wasilla to the governorship of Alaska and the Vice-Presidential nomination. Their common sense tells them, "a quixotic figure would never have gotten that far." She's in the winner's circle, so they likely have gotten her Tea Party leadership pegged as her latest schtick.

Thus, his bafflement at why she resigned. Not only is it not something a successful politican does, but also it shows her as a real reformer - which the insiders associate with tilting at windmills. How could a political star like Sarah Palin be so "foolish" as to cut into vested interests to the point where they sic the attack dogs on her as a person?

But...I have a sneaky suspicion that Cheney's playing a disinformation game. He could be pretending to know nothing about it, so as to give her supporters an opening to explain why. Structuring it to give the impression that anyone who thinks she's a "quitter" is merely ignorant, and in need of the truth. If he's up to that, he's effectively pro-Palin.

Cheney’s confusion over her resignation was quite surprising. Why can’t the D.C. conservatives comprehend a simple concept which so many of us ordinary citizens are capable of grasping with such clarity? My friends, this differentiation between us and them is precisely why Cheney and many other true conservative D.C. politicians simply cannot understand the true reason of Palin’s resignation.

It's nice to think so, but plenty of ordinary citizens also have trouble grasping the concept.

That's true, which explains why changing the culture of corruption will not be easy. Those of us that do grasp the concept will need to be relentless and uncompromising in our quest.

Kinda what makes her a RINO, right?

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Don't really expect anyone to see this here, but I watched "The Undefeated" tonight and was moved by it. The gates of hell opened up on this woman's family, yet McCain stood silently by.

She is anything but the dimwit her enemies have made her out to be, and probably intuits the ailment of America better than anyone on our side.

Run Sarah, run.

It really is hard to put Palin into a category. If anything, her party could be named the We, The People Party.

I’m looking forward to seeing The Undefeated. My brother and I watched Media Malpractice on NetFlix yesterday. I’d recommend people watch that one, too, just to remind themselves how the media worked to defeat McCain by trying to destroy Palin. Caution though, it will make you really angry watching it.

Yeah, The Undefeated made me more than a little angry. It really gave me a lot to think about concerning how I let my own perception of Palin be shaped by the attacks on her. I’m ashamed.

I’ve been onto the media’s bias for a long time now. I can’t even watch a commercial on TV or a sitcom without noticing the bias. I’ve been a supporter ever since I first heard her speak after McCain chose her as his veep. The media’s attacks on her have done nothing to me except steel my resolve to help her become president. We need to beat the media on this one. We can’t let them win because if they do, we won’t be able get decent people to run for office ever again.

Happy to know you are on our side!
