The “proud union” boasts make me uncomfortable. They bothered me in “The Undefeated.”
Understand - but you don't want to alienate those you don't need to.
Her (our) beef is against the union leaders. Like with education - it's not the teachers themselves (as a whole) that we despise (many Freepers are teachers), it's the union bosses (and the legislators they own)that suck.
She's trying to peel union members away from them and into our ranks.
Oh, go suck an egg, okay? If she bothers you, steer clear. Must irk you no end you can’t find anything to criticize about this...to twist or turn to make it sound bad.
So how does it feel to see REAL leadership in action that no one has to exaggerate or add bells and whistles to to give it a significance it doesn’t deserve?
Bet you wish you could do that.
It's called "co-opting the the opponent's language". The left has been doing this for years -- it's about time someone stepped up and gave them a taste of their own medicine. Palin does this especially well with unions and feminists.
Don’t let it bother you. As the pedulum swings, unions once served a good purpose before the power corrupted. A lot of her union brothers and sisters are good hard-working conservative people. Thanks to government they have a gun to their heads forcing them to pay union dues, like taxes. Those folks do all they can to counter the effects of those forced dues. These are the people [and those on the fence] are the folks she is inviting to the battle.
One thing I wish she had include in her post is the fact that the union bosses are busy unionizing China and other foreign countries. Once corruption has destroyed union jobs in this country completely they will still be rolling in dough and power - on a much larger international level. They don’t care whether there are American jobs or not.
A lot of union members are proud of their membership because they believe in the proud history of unions. You can’t persuade people to see your point of view if you bash something they take pride in. By talking about her former union membership and her family’s current membership (in many industries you can’t get a job unless you’re in a union) she is able to make a connection with them. You have to help them see the problem before they’re willing to change it. Baby steps!

What better way to get their cooperation than to say “I am one of you”?
“The proud union boasts make me uncomfortable.”
Why? There is nothing intrinsically wrong with unions. They’re like any organization; they can be a force for good or evil.
