AT Duke University last fall, members of the Sigma Nu fraternity e-mailed 300 of their female classmates about an off-campus Halloween party. “Hey Ladies,” the invitation leered, complete with a misspelling, “Whether your dressing up as a slutty nurse, a slutty doctor, a slutty schoolgirl or just a total slut, we invite you...” Yes, there was outrage: in the form of fliers plastered around the Duke campus reprinting the offending e-mail and asking, “Is this why you came to Duke?” And there was official indignation: The recently formed Greek Women’s Initiative will be tackling the subject of gender relations.
But a less-noted fact remains: hundreds of Duke women went to that Halloween party and many dressed as they had been asked.
As parents around the country send their children to campuses for the start of another academic year, what are we to make of the fact that lessons of equality, respect and self-worth have been heard when it comes to the classroom, but lost somewhere on the way to the clubs? Why has the pendulum swung back to a feeling that sexualization of women is fun and funny rather than insulting and uncomfortable? Why are so many women O.K. with that?

The cause is lost. Give it up because you’re wasting your effort. I’ve been trying for years with very few success stories. I did manage to convince a couple that they “couldn’t care less” but it took a lot of doing.
Also - the underlying problem is feminisim - the 60’s feminist mantra was that women should act like men in all venues - including the area of sexual promiscuity. Men could play around through the ages (although of course the men with character refrained), and birth control allowed women to do the same.
The sad part is that in their hearts the majority of women don’t really want this. On these campuses, however, if they don’t go with it,they are marginalized, and they don’t want that either.
Bad 60’s feminist ideology is at play here and the liberals will not admit it.

One of the things I have seen in the feminist agenda is to reverse the “double standard”—the standard wherein if a guy has a lot of sex, he is a stud, but if a girl has a lot of sex, she’s a slut. I once read an article wherein a feminist writer said, “The difference between men and women is that men f-— and women get f-—ed.” (Yes, an “academic” article said that.) Her goal was to make it so that men and women enjoyed sexual equality, so that a woman could have as much sex as she pleases and she too can be lauded for it, as the man would be.
It sounds to me like the feminist writer previously mentioned has seen her desires come to fruition in this article about Princeton. After all, you see women embracing sex with the same juvenile attitudes as these young men. There is no stigma. It’s just “fun and funny.”
The feminists think that by pushing this game of free sexuality they are promoting “lessons of equality, respect and self-worth,” but really all they have done is to bring women down into the gutters with these sex obsessed boys.
My dad has always said that the feminist movement mainly benefits the cads of the world. Rather than increasing respect for women, all it has done is made it easier for the lowlife men to get laid.
I wonder if the writer I mentioned realizes that she really has reinforced the notion of “men f-— and women get f-—ed” by supporting an ideology that takes human beings and reduces them to the sum of their sexual parts.

Sounds like the girls at Duke are more than willing co-conspirators... Remember the Dukie coed who created quite the sensation by her public rating of her sexual partners?
And, I’m sure this is not limited to the ivy-covered walls of Durham, but for some reason Duke seems to find itself in the news for these shenanigans on a regular basis.

I worked at a newspaper where a lot of our jokes were grammatically based. Whenever an argument became heated the other person would cry out, “Irregardless, I could care less!” and everyone would start laughing.

Great point - I still think the majority of girls are suckered into it (psychologically) in order to be popular, not left out of the scene, etc... I am the mother of 4 daughters, around the college age or just past, and one coming up in several years - - Mine for the most part did not join into the hooking up co- conspiracy and had/have friends who did/are and these girls are suffering under the radar - Some are bulimic, etc.
Many of these girls create a facade that they are willing; they are “willing” because they don’t want to be considered “losers”.
You are wrong. This behaviour is “natural” for women. Feminism merely removed the societal restraints on behaviour.
I suspect/hope you are being sarcastic. Feminism wants us all to buy that picture that wmoen are the same as men - the Hite report was dreadful and has been exposed - - in the end women want a man who will love them exclusively and are not unrestrained by nature.

Women want different things than men, but not in the way you think. You may or may not think that pickup is abusive, but you should read someone like heartiste to give you an idea of what goes on in a woman's mind.
Many women are driven entirely by biological urges, I seriously doubt that the feminists of yesteryear would have labelled themselves voluntarily as sluts ...
