If it's true the Navy has been shooting down scud missiles over Libya from sea, and for whatever reason Navy information never reported this, it's time to cut the Navy Information budget by 75%.

I don’t see a problem with this. The Navy gets to test a capability at Libya’s expense and the Russians, Chinese, Norks, and Iranians obtain a valuable lesson about how effective their missiles really are.

Unconfirmed reports

Try waiting until they're confirmed next time.

This technique might be useful for Israel and South Korea.

I don’t get it, why advertise our capabilities?

They need to be cut anyway, they are now a “global force for good,” as per the new commercial. We are no longer even making a pretext that the military is for defense, it’s now all about the new world/one-world order. The borders are wide open, our infrastructure collapsing, but the Navy is working for the “global” good.

I actually downloaded a blogger android app onto my phone just to post this

Well, that shows the commitment of the author to accurate reporting.

for whatever reason Navy information never reported this

Because it never happened? What these idiots don't understand is that shooting down a suborbital rocket requires you to launch another suborbital rocket. Both rockets will set off every launch detection system, both ground based and geo-spatial systems, and everyone will know about it. So to claim the US Navy has some secret launcher and rockets that are undetectable is crazy.

Hmm ~ so our stuff works ~ ought to anyway since we paid so much for it.

Best way to let 'em know we got the stuff is to just DO IT.

This is part of the reason for the post in the first place. Why no news? It appears to be solid but why are they keeping it under wraps?

“Seaworthy PAC-3’s?”

We actually have a few missiles capable of going point-to-point with a SCUD. It’s just a programming solution is all.

My understanding is that a PAC-3 is just a Patriot Missile/Radar with exactly that, a software revision,.....

As a former squid, I am appalled at the “Global Force for Good”.

What happened to Join the Navy, ride the Waves?

Live the Adventure?

Just total bravo sierra, frankly.

I would guess a it’s the RIM-161 Standard Missile 2 (SM-2) with software upgrades. I doubt we would be lighting off any of the RIM-161 Standard Missile 3 (SM-3) that are essentially ABMs.

24 August 2011 – UK Guardian – Chris Stephen from Misrata… Sirte is Gaddafi’s birthplace but to the symbolic value of capturing this city is added the urgency of overrunning bases from which Scud missiles are now being launched against Misrata. These Soviet-era rockets are the heaviest weapons so far deployed by pro-Gaddafi forces. At least four have been aimed at the city, the latest exploding amid a flash of orange in a thunderous detonation in the early hours of this morning, causing momentary panic among hundreds of people gathered to greet relatives freed from captivity in Tripoli. Misratans appear to have the US navy to thank for the failure of any of the missiles to reach their targets, with reports that a cruiser (make that a destroyer) operating in the Mediterranean has been using Aegis missiles to intercept the Scuds each time one is detected coming in over the Gulf of Sirte. What is unnerving the people here is that the interceptions, perhaps for technical reasons, take place at the last moment, with today’s Scud being blown apart seconds before it would have hit the city. So far the US navy has hit four out four, but no one is sure how many scuds government forces still possess, nor whether Gaddafi has the capability to mount chemical warheads, as was the case with Iraq scuds fired at Israel in the 1991 Gulf war.

Why would navy rush to publish everything it does, ego?

There are sound strategic and national security reasons for not telling the world what you have done and what you are capable of
