Rick Perry Wanted Bi-National Health Insurance With Mexico
Right Speak ^ | 8/28/2011 | Right Wingnut

Posted on 08/27/2011 10:53:16 PM PDT by Right Wingnut 2

I just read the text of Rick Perry's remarks to the Border Summit on Aug, 21st 2001. How in the hell is this stuff slipping through the cracks without a single mention in the conservative press? If this had been Obama, Sean Hannity would have been talking about it 24/7 during the last presidential campaign.

There are many passages in the speech that are of great concern to me, but this one really caught my attention.

...Legislation authored by border legislators Pat Haggerty and Eddie Lucio establishes an important study that will look at the feasibility of bi-national health insurance. This study recognizes that the Mexican and U.S. sides of the border compose one region, and we must address health care problems throughout that region. That’s why I am also excited that Texas Secretary of State Henry Cuellar is working on an initiative that could extend the benefits of telemedicine to individuals living on the Mexican side of the border....

Does Rick Perry still support an international health insurance program such as the one he laid out in his speech that day? Will someone in the media please ask him before it's too late?

You can read the entire text of Perry's speech HERE

I think those treaties need to be revisited and that the the notion that we should allow foreign trucks to freely cross or borders after 9/11 is monumentally stupid and anyone advocating as such suffers from the same disease.

Like any foreign traveller or person that is responsible for their own welfare. The people on the other side of the border need to be responsible for their own healthcare and this means that they need to pay for it with their own money instead of bilking America for it.

How does that not make sense? Oh the horror!!! Pay for my own healthcare instead of recieving socialized Perrycare!!!

Yeah, that's consistent with Rick Perry's weather vane strategy of one moment claiming that he's the standard barer for the 10th amendment. Then shifting with the wind after realizing his political miscalculation.

I don't suppose that makes him a great representative for the party of principles, do you?

And when was the speech you quoted from? Did you know that time is linear and moves in a forward direction?

And why do you think that people think trucks should be allowed to move "freely"? It's been a long time since this has been debated post-9/11 (as I said, the speech you quoted from was pre-9/11, and it's monumentally stupid to think someone would have a post-9/11 understanding in a pre-9/11 speech), but from what I remember there were to be background checks on the drivers, and port inspections where the trucks were loaded, and spot checks and monitoring.

The idea was that the cargo would be inspected where it was loaded. The union thugs wanted to force mexican trucks to stop at the border and get unloaded and reloaded, which would make it so expensive that the union thugs would get all the business instead.

Why do you think that allowing health insurance that crosses the border means that the United States would pay for it?

You know, until Obamacare, most of us were quite happily paying for our OWN health insurance, and the big issue was whether we could use our own health insurance outside of our regions. Why anybody would think that “bi-national” in 2001 would translate to “America pays for Mexican health care” is beyond me.

I figured eventually some PDSer would use “PerryCare” in this thread.

He is for the NAFTA Highway, so how can he NOT be for NAFTA?

In case you don’t remember, NAFTA is short for North American Trade Agreement, which includes the One Worlder’s North American regional governemtn which is comprised of Mexico, Anerica and Canada as one regi9on.

I'm soooo sick and tired of uninformed bloggers bashing Perry, in general, and Texas, in particular.

Me too! Especially when it comes from newbie spammers.

He's talking about providing telemedicine (doctors consulting with Mexican doctors for sick Texans in Mexico), or to help diagnose outbreaks of diseases near the border before they erupt and infect our shores.

Before they erupt and infect our shores?

How in tarnation does that help when tens of millions of Mexicans continue spread to all points in the U.S.?

Perry was attempting to address a growing concern (the rise in infectious diseases coming up from the border

What has that to do with my questions above?

I don’t plan to support Perry or Romney in the primary. I think that conservatives need to learn more about Perry before jumping on that bandwagon. They made a similar mistake in 1999.
