Neoconservatives were leftists who agreed with the New Deal & Great Society but were anti-Communist.

But Neocons were also internationalists (as opposed to American nationalists) and they ran headlong into the arms of the already established Rockefeller (fiscally & socially Liberal, East Coast Oil & Banking Money) Republicans who were also internationalists for business reasons. For many years, the Rockefeller Republicans & Neocons worked together, ostensibly to fight communism overseas, but this also gave the Rockefeller Republicans an excuse to form global bipartisan networks and to involve the US in protecting their business interests outside the country.

The Rockefeller Republicans and the Goldwater Conservatives were bitter enemies from post-WWII until the 1980's. Part of the deal made at the Repub Convention in 1979 was that Conservative Ronald Reagan accept Rockefeller Republican George H Bush as a running mate. (Bush had actually been the first to call Reagan's economic plan, "voodoo economics" when he was running in the primary.) Barry Goldwater didn't like the deal at all but he sucked it up. Old Barry couldn't keep his mouth shut however when Reagan started mixing religion and politics with Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority. Barry Goldwater said, "Every good Christian should line up and kick Jerry Falwell's ass"

It's pretty interesting that today what passes for "a Conservative" is some combination of things that Barry Goldwater himself would kick to the curb -- whether the mix of politics and religion of Bachmann/Palin/Perry/Santorum or the NAFTA loving internationalism of Bush/Perry/Romney/Cain. We embrace Rockefeller Republicanism and mistakenly call it "Conservatism".

So if anyone wonders how we got here -- with bank bailouts, so many wars overseas, and the wealth getting drained from the country, don't just look at the neocons who've been blamed extensively. Track the trail back to the Rockefeller Republicans and their heirs: both Bushes and Mitt Romney.

David Rockefeller's Wiki bio is even one hell of a read: "Founder, Council on Foreign Relations, Founder, Trilateral Commission, Founder, Bilderberg Group, Class A Director Federal Reserve of NY, Chairman Chase Bank, World Bank, IMF, and it goes on and on on.

Here's a direct quote from David Rockefeller:

"For more than a century ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents such as my encounter with Castro to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure — one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it."

The problem is most people like the original poster learn political history from people like Sean Hannity or Mark Levin.

That is why you see so many "Conservatives" supporting Obama's war to support Al Queda in Libya... because Mark Levin told them it was OK.
