Peggy Noonan and whether Obama should run for a second term
Island Turtle ^ | August 20, 2011 | Corky Boyd

Posted on 08/20/2011 10:50:58 PM PDT by Corky Boyd

In Friday’s Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan takes a look at President Obama’s Martha's Vineyard vacation and speculates on his thoughts in view of declining poll numbers, and disillusionment among his supporters.

"How could he not be depressed? He has made big mistakes since the beginning of his presidency and has been pounded since the beginning of his presidency. He's got to be full of doubts at this point about what to do. His baseline political assumptions have proved incorrect, his calculations have turned out to be erroneous, his big decisions have turned to dust...."

"Nothing worked! And nothing's going to work. He's the smartest guy in the room, but he's got the reverse Midas touch. Everything he touches turns to—well, unsatisfying outcomes."

But the article is more than failures and vacations. It questions whether Obama should continue to seek a second term. Indeed the subhead of the op-ed is, “Is his visit to Martha's Vineyard a sign that he's giving up?” She concludes her article with an ominous series of statements which are in reality questions for Obama to answer....

Smartest man in the room! Why so skeptical? Have you not seen the crease in his pants? This is enough proof for a progressive.

What they’ll say is, “Well it costs too much money,” but you know what? It would cost, about... It — it — it would cost about the same as what we would spend... It... Over the course of 10 years it would cost what it would costs us... (nervous laugh) All right. Okay. We’re going to... It... It would cost us about the same as it would cost for about — hold on one second. I can’t hear myself.

Now that’s what I call articulate. Resist we much!

He's the smartest guy in the room,

I suspect when she wrote that she was trying to characterize his prespective. No truly intelligent person ever thinks like that. The smartest people in the world are the people who know what they don't know.

my understanding about Christopher Buckley voting for Obama
was because of personal anger towards Sen. McCain for McCain’s failure to call Christopher personally when William Buckley died.

Failures and vacations are the only things history can tell about Obama.

I haven’t read the Noonan woman’s article yet, but I wager she manages to criticize Obama for not being ‘serious’ in some respect. That’s her real zinger - a pol who is not ‘serious’ about an issue, policy, or problem.

However, this was posted under thief “blogging and personal” section. So, jumping ugly on the blogger is kind of likebbeing surprised to find gambling in thue casino.

Obama has not yet played his most powerful card, the shuck and jive bumbling Uncle Tom. All he need do is come clean and admit that he is a good hearted dunce who just wanted to help.
Sorrowful, apologetic humility coupled with a cry for help from the American people would see his support bounce to 99%. Only jaundiced FReepers would refuse to be taken in. Fortunately for us his egotistical narcissism will not allow him to have such a self depricating moment of honesty.
I would love to write that speech here and now but Jim and the mods have banned me from doing so. That would be worth starting a blog for.
Take note, Corky, blogging a POV unacceptable to FR policy is a legitimate use of a blog link by a FReeper.

He's the smartest guy in the room...

Only if he's in a room by himself. With no insects or microscopic organisms.

My thoughts exactly ...

The Democrats were screwed in 2008 ... because any opponent to the "Kenyan" was painted as a Racist ... including Hilliary Clinton ...

They HAD to basically "steal" the Nomination ... because of the "black-abandonment backlash" they would face ...

The Democrats are SOOOO SCREWED ... as a political observer, I genuinely feel sorry for them ...

However ... as a Tea Party member ... I say "Tar and Feather" every single Democrat Marxist Socialist OUT of Congress ...

BTW ... anyone heard from General Colin Powell lately ... the USEFUL IDIOT that traded whatever integrity he had for "ten minutes" of Liberl-MSM fame during the 2008 election ... when Powel endorsed the "Kenyan" for POTUS ?

Traitors everywhere ...(sigh)

I used to think Noonan wrote beautifully, but now I realize a marijuana-smoking hippy writes about the same.

If HRC ran against and beat Obama in Round 2 . . .

HRC already beat Obama in Round 1. She received more primary votes than Obama did. She watched as the DNC actually took convention delegates away from her and gave them to Obama. Any potential Dem candidate has got to know that the DNC picks the candidate - not the voter. And the DNC is sticking with Obama no matter what the primary results say.

Shi-man,
I think you are a little rough on Corky. Can you put one of these ads up for my blog?

I even have a post that sounded like a Peggy Noonan toned tome and apologized to my reader, (only my mother reads it upstairs).

And no, I am not a postmenopausal depressed housewife from NYC. Not From NYC, anyway.

Please, can’t we all just get along.?

Racism, even blog bigotry, is despicable. But for me to hate blog bigots, rednecks and bare breasted blonde maidens operating jack hammers at an Elton John concert would be wrong as well.

Don’t forget to click on my ad.

How naive. What will Peggy write when the 2012 election is put on hold?
