According to the Austin-American Statesman's Politifact Texas Perry-O-Meter Rick Perry at least twice promised he would not not run for President in 2012:
a)He told a questioner at a January 2010 debate that he would "absolutely" serve out his full new 4-year term.
b)In December 2010 Perry told Reuters, "I don't want to be president of the United States. I'm not going to run for the presidency of the United States."
And from EFC polfacts:
a) In a Nov 8, 2010 interview with Newsweek (after he had been re-elected):
"Not going to run for president. Not going to be a vice-presidential candidate. Not going to be in anybody's cabinet. And I suspect I'm not going to be anybody's ambassador either."
But in announcing the launch of his book tour on October 30, 2010, Perry was more ambiguous.
Responding to a question of his running for President in 2012 Perry said:
"No, I've answered that about as many times and as many ways as I can."
But he refused to commit to serving out a full term if re-elected:
"I'm guaranteeing people that I'll get in there and do the best job I can for 'em as governor...I just think it's all premature to be making a statement about you're going to be doing two, four, six or eight years from now--I don't ever take anything off the table."
From yahoo.com on May 25/2011:
"Rick Perry has repeatedly said he won't run for president in 2012 but there are signs he might not stick to his PLEDGE."
To whom it may concern:
I am a Palinista and I understand once Sarah Palin gets into the Presidential race she will be attacked for "quitting" (leaving office before her full term was up).
But here are the parameters on the issue imho;
1)Sarah Palin cannot be criticized by Rick Perry, a Perry operative or Perry supporter at any web site for "quitting". That is out of bounds and would be hypocritical.
2)If you are undecided and you choose to support Perry because in your mind Palin "quit" then you are also being a hypocrite and disingenuous.
3)If you are a Palinista, you have no right to criticize Perry for walking away before his full term is up (I am not criticizing Perry but just pointing out the facts).
4)And if you support someone other than Palin or Perry (eg Romney, Bachmann, Huntsman (he also left his post early, didn't he), Gingrich or Cain) neither your candidate nor yourself has any right to criticize Palin for "quitting" if you do not mention Perry in the same breath. Singling Palin out would be disingenuous.
In summary, records are records and facts are facts. Why isn't the media putting more focus on Perry "quitting" as they did with Palin?
I think the answer is obvious. The MSM doesn't want to do anything to undermine Perry in his quest to stop Palin from getting the nomination.
Then, given flame by Perry in the early days
That's hysterically funny, he didn't have any exposure to give a national opinion, and you also claim she just "jumped on the bandwagon", as if she didn't actually help spearhead things, rather she simply, you know......just decided she would take advantage of it rather than help it along.
You are one sick in the head person, and truly full of it.
“she will not do that again”......
yeah, in the same way that someone provided a whole raft of quotes from Perry (was it you in this very thread?) to the effect that he wouldn’t run for President........
unusual times and pressing new priorities, largely created by a highly disappointing Republican Establishment accommodation to Obama with the debt-ceiling issue) have a way of throwing all those early statements overboard.
Rick Perry rejected portions of Obama stimulus for Texas because that money trampled on his State’s rights. Invoked 10th amendment arguments during Obamacare debates and beyond. Firmly held against Federal intrusion at every step of the way before it was popular.
“And do you really think the MSM is overlooking the fact Perry left office before his full term was up after promising not to do so for any other reason than to prevent comparisons to Palin leaving office prematurely?”
The MSM is not ignoring anything that could hurt Perry. It is opposed to him nearly as much as to her. It is desperate to destroy him as it tried to do with her.
Sarah has stood up to everything that has been thrown at her and we have yet to see if that will be the case with Perry. I hope he went through his closets and won’t be blindsided by any skeletons which may be dragged into the light.
My buddy and I were talking about this and he said “Well, he has been governor of Texas for ten years there must not be anything there.” I reminded him of the drunken driving arrest that Bush had which was not brought up until the weekend before the election in 2000. Surely the Treason Media did not just find that out but waited until it was sure to do maximum damage before releasing the story.
What is good for the gander is good for the goose.
The same line of argument should then apply to Sarah Palin in respect to the 2010 midterm election and the 2012 election.
He was never in the forefront because he didn't have national stature, nor do any of your points show he was a leader of the TEA party, and quite simply, he wasn't.
And he did take lots of stimulus money, lots of it, tons of it.
You're still full of it, and still a slimeball for what you said. Go climb back under your rock.
Good night.
I never called Perry a "quitter".
A "Moonlighter" perhaps.
Palin Urges Vote for Karen Handel; Against ‘Good Ole Boy Network’

Get a clue. OK?
“And, in 2010 elections, Palin was absolutely opportunistic and sexist in her endorsements.”
Like supporting Rick Perry over Kay Bailey Hutchison and Debra Medina. Yea, that looks pretty sexist./sarc/
You can’t see farther than the end of your nose.
“Palin quit 9 months after the election and, yes did collect a check while running”
Running for Vice President is not the same thing as running for President. The campaign lasted all of two months. You are asked and it is over very quickly. No one has ever resigned to run for Vice President. But many people have resigned to run for President (like Bob Dole) or did not have an elected office when they ran (like Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan). It takes a pretty sleazy grifter to promise people you are not going to run to get reelected, and then proceed to run on the taxpayer’s dime.
I have to believe you know something this basic and I am just wasting my time explaining it to you.
“A “Moonlighter” perhaps.”
How about a grifter? He is collecting a government check for work he promised to do but has reneged on. I think that is an outrage and he should have to answer for it. Especially with the fiscal mess Texas is in right now.
What fiscal mess? We are doing better than most of the country.
I totally understand why Palin resigned (lawsuits, etc.) but most candidates don’t.
I don’t have any issue with Perry not resigning. Lt Gov Dewhurst is considering a run for KBH’s seat. So what is left Strauss? No thanks.
Since he and Obama have butted heads so many times the last few years...and since Obama has targeted Texas...maybe he changed his mind.
In any case, I pay taxes in this state and don’t have a problem with it...nor does anyone I know.
“What fiscal mess? We are doing better than most of the country.”
This one:
6. The states debt has doubled under Perry.
The governor rails against government borrowing in Washington. But during his time in charge of the state government in Austin, state borrowing has more than doubled. According to PolitiFact, a nonpartisan fact-checking web site, Texas had $34.08 billion in outstanding bonds and notes at the end of the 2009 fiscal year, up from $13.7 billion at the end of fiscal 2001, Perrys first as governor.
If Perry gets credit for job creation in Texas on his watch, does he deserve equal credit for the massive increase in government borrowing during his time at the tiller?
7. Some taxes have gone up during Perrys tenure.
Although he signed an anti-tax pledge in 2009 and now says hes against all tax increases, Perry has raised taxes in Texas a half-dozen times since becoming governor, PolitiFact concludes. Perry explained that several of the tax increases were part of larger tax reform measures that lowered other taxes. The bottom line remains:
Texans paying more thanks to Perrys signature on tax-increase measures include companies with higher business taxes, plus cigarette smokers and purchasers of smokeless tobacco, fireworks and diesel equipment.
*******************************************
“In any case, I pay taxes in this state and dont have a problem with it...nor does anyone I know.”
So you think, because you support Perry, you can give him absolution on behalf of ten or fifteen million others. You can’t.
ANd taxpayers in other states resent this kind of scam as well. It says a lot about how Rick respects and guards the taxpayer’s money...that he will take it under false pretenses in a kind of bait and switch scheme.
Hammer..meet nail.
Yawn. Lame. Who’s your candidate again ?
Apparently not finishing out terms is a resume enhancer. Maybe he was looking for love. LOL
No doubt the state’s debt has doubled. But do ya think..just maybe that has to do with the economy? A lot of the debt incurred will be repaid by self- supporting programs.
I have a gripe over franchise tax, but that was actually passed by the legislature. You act like Perry is an unfettered king. The cigarette tax and fireworks tax? That affected a very small part of the population. I’ll have to look up the deisel equipment tax, I’m not familiar with it.
In any case, Texas is, today still in good shape compared to many other states. Or can you prove otherwise? I’m sure you can come up with some stats, but unless you can support them with population comparisons and event comparisons (hurricanes, wildfires, etc)...(insert my comment here).
No, I can’t say that I can speak for anyone but myself. I never claimed to. But noone I know has their panties all wadded up about him not resigning...for the reasons I have already given. Do you pay taxes in Texas? If not...why the he!! would you care?
But since I see you post every negative comment you can find about Perry, how can you presume to represent the rest of the nation? What happened...did Perry fire your Dad or something?
I don’t know that Perry will be my candidate of choice. But looking at the last debate..who did you imagine seeing on the stage with Obama that might have a chance? At least the dislike is strong enough between Perry and Obama, today, he might make an interesting debate.
BTW, I’m very flattered that such a prolific aniti-perry poster answered my post.
“Palin quit the Governorship to become a Fox pundit and make millions.”
You are a Perry supporter. I get that. Not a problem. But if you are going to flat out lie and say Palin quit to get a job on Fox news, you are either woefully uneducated as to the ‘history’ you keep demanding others learn or a troll.
Spreading total crap like that on a site that backs Palin to the tune of 87% is a sure-fire way to attract attention to yourself. Possibly electrical attention, but that’s not my call.
Only counts if Perry quits AFTER losing (May God help us all if he is nominated, then loses!) the election; last I looked, he’s still governor, and will only resign if elected President.
