...The subject of evacuating the US citizens was raised in the early hours on March 16 (local time). The US had already knew about the unusually high temperature of the reactors from the Global Hawk data, and determined that "the fuel has already melted". The US thought the Kan administration was simply leaving the disaster response to TEPCO, and "distrust [in the administration] was intense". The US high-ranking officials wanted to evacuate the US citizens [from Tokyo] but the local officials including Maher objected, as "it would severely undermine the US-Japan alliance". The plan was never implemented...

I think given that there have been no injuries to the public from the accident it was the right decision for the wrong reason.

The fears of nuclear power are enormously exaggerated.

I would choose to live next door to a nuclear power plant over pretty much any industrial facility. For that matter I would rather live next door to a nuclear power plant than a modern farm (I have worked on one).

Instead they let them stay and get dosed. The horrifying result will be seen in a few years.

Don’t be an ignorant alarmist fool. Everyone in Tokyo is fine, including me and my family and friends and co-workers and several FReepers.

So the corrupt Japanese government was not just contaminating their own people. They decided to also contaminate thousands of foreigners by lying about three nuclear reactors that had completely melted.

Good luck selling that one. When it comes to 'nuclear', facts are trampled by emotion.

The radionuclide levels in Tokyo are the same as background radiation.
I understand this stuff. If I were a worker at the plant, I may have some reservations. In Tokyo there is no cause for alarm.

You are unfortunately correct. Over the years the media has thoroughly brain washed the public to the point that there is no talking to most people about the subject.

For most people a TV reporter with a single Earth Science college course knows more than some one with 30 years experience in the industry.

How come you’re not dead from the Chernobyl accident? It was at least three times worse than Fukushima. And by the way the cloud did pass over most of the US. Radioactive dust from Chernobyl covers the US to this day and nothing has been done about it.

Don’t live your life in pointless fear.
