The US high-ranking officials wanted to evacuate the US citizens [from Tokyo] but the local officials including Maher objected, as "it would severely undermine the US-Japan alliance". The plan was never implemented...

I think given that there have been no injuries to the public from the accident it was the right decision for the wrong reason.

The fears of nuclear power are enormously exaggerated.

I would choose to live next door to a nuclear power plant over pretty much any industrial facility. For that matter I would rather live next door to a nuclear power plant than a modern farm (I have worked on one).

Instead they let them stay and get dosed. The horrifying result will be seen in a few years.

So the corrupt Japanese government was not just contaminating their own people. They decided to also contaminate thousands of foreigners by lying about three nuclear reactors that had completely melted.
