“When reading Perrys stands on immigration in 2001 vs 2011, you have to take into account that things have gotten much worse on the Texas-Mexico border, and Perry has been out in front sounding the alarms and taking action to counteract problems. To boot, no candidate for president understands the border security and immigration issue better than Perry. Hes been dealing with it longer, and at more in depth levels than any of the other candidates, including Obama”

If so, then why didn’t he get the “sanctuary city” bill passed in the legislative special session???
He had the clout. He had the muscle. For Christ sake, he has a GOP super-majority in the Texas State House.
So what happened??
The Cheap labor loving, big business special interest is what happened.
And Ol Rick, prolly went to have some beers with em the next day.
I don’t know why he didn’t ram through a controversial bill that had the risk of alienating Hispanic voters.
I am curious what city in Texas was trying to become a sanctuary city? Are sanctuary cities in Texas a problem? And if they are a problem, did this legislative solution have the proper risk vs reward payoff?
The two “buddies” I have heard mentioned as Perry cronies who “made” Perry go soft on ramming through this law are the owner of Perry Homes, a subdivision home builder based in Houston and H.E. Butt (or HEB Supermarkets) in San Antonio. What do either of these corporations have to gain or lose with an anti-sanctuary city law? Don’t make sense.
