In one of the first major parts of the Republican nomination process, we have a winner at the Iowa straw poll. Underneath are the winners, and other relevant numbers that have come out so far:
Michele Bachmann with 4,823 votes
Ron Paul with approximately 4,600 votes
Tim Pawlenty with approximately 2,200 votes
Rick Perry had 712 write-in votes.
16,892 ballots were cast. Rick Santorum came in fourth. That's about 3,000 more than expected.

somewhat true, but I would discount the 4,671 Paulbot idiots. In the end, it doesn’t matter who the nominee is (Palin, Perry, Romney), these morons will run to whatever libertarian, anti-war banner when their guy doesn’t make it.
Unfortunately, looking at the NV voting demographics, we have a problem here with whomever the eventual nominee is. These retards make up about 18%-20% of the GOP base there and could not be swayed by Sharon Angle. Putting Palin or Perry at the top probably won’t do it either.
I know people are all for the “big-tent” and all, but it’s time to boot the Paulbots out. Their libertarians, not conservative and while some of the issues might be in agreement with one-another, when they differ, they differ greatly.
In my opinion, Bachmann beat the real-contenders by at least 2-1. Of course, there can be movement among Bachmann/Pawlenty/Cain/Santorum, but the Paulbots are stuck on stupid.

Right. Nobody has said that this means Bachmann automatically wins the nomination. Why can’t people give her some credit and be glad that she did win? This is a win for conservatives. Romney didn’t win. Perry didn’t win, Pawlenty didn’t win. Cain and Bachmann were the two strongest conservatives in the list. Cain had a good day, too.

Too many conservatives felt the same way and so we got Obama!!!
Take a deep breath and do what’s best for this country....
Our favorite candidate won’t always win the primary but we do need to get this piece of trash out of our WH!
Not one of those R’s would have done as bad a job as Obama.

Yeah. Too bad they ain't worth five cents. Yeah instead they should go with the third party pimps around here who cannot muster even .00000000001% of the vote yet spend all their time trash talking everyone who can actually win elections

. The Paul-bots usually overtake everything and Bachmann overcame that.
Well I heard he bussed in 5600, he only got 4600. What happened to the other 1000? I guess they did not have enough pot to satisfy them.

It’s intellectually dishonest for you to post around here as if you ever bothered to have an honest thought about any issue when you are, in fact, a mindless third party pimp.

Time for Cain to quit and endorse Bachmann. I like the guy but if he can’t beat Santorum in a race he was competing in, it is time to give up your 5% and start running for VP.
To: dfwgator
Yes, but he skipped the straw poll in 2007, same as Romney skipped it this year.

I do not begrudge any of them their just dues. I am happy that mitt didn’t win... I despise that rat bastard.

Straw polls such as this one are simply a meaningless joke
Yeah right. I would imagine 4 or $5 million was spent on this “meaningless joke.” Maybe more.
Along with being a fundraiser it also reflects the viability of a candidate. If you can turn out the vote in the Straw Poll, you can probably turn out the vote in the caucuses. If you try to do well at the Straw Poll and you don’t do well, pack it in before the lack of donors do it for you.
