Last night, eight Republican Presidential candidates debated the issues right before the Ames Straw Poll. They were, alphabetically, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum.
Ms. Bachmann and Mr. Pawlenty got into a debate of their own, while Mr. Paul blamed the United States for Iran being our enemy. Mr. Gingrich complained of "Mickey Mouse" questions, while Mr. Romney said he would not eat Barack Obama's "dog food."
But the question is, to you, who won the debate last night? Was it the supposed front-runner Mitt Romney or the compelling Herman Cain? Could it have been Rick Perry, who did not participate, but may have benefited politically from it? Was it someone else?

Newtie got off the best zingers, especially the one on the pompous Wallace. Too bad he photo-oped with Nutsy Pelousy to endorse the Gorebal Warming Theory.
Personality-wise I like Michelle (Bachman, that is!)
I think I won the debate.
After all, I did not watch or listen to it.
Perry....and yes I know he wasn’t there....
Sarah Palin
Second: newt
They have Rick Perry listed there as a choice too!
I thought Michele did good and she got my vote,But 5 Idiots voted for Willard.
Fork in them, they’re done: T-Paw, bachmann, R. Paul, Santorum, Cain, that guy.. What is his name, Huntsman,.
No house Representative is going to win the nomination.
Do your homework on parry ... He is NOT a Conservative.
I did applaud when Newt dressed down Wallace! It was exactly the right thing to do.
The problem with Newt is, he absolutely understands conservative principles inside out, but he doesn’t always ABIDE by them. He talks a great game, always has, but folds quickly when push comes to shove. For this reason, he’s not presidential material.
Newt.
Not only what he said, but the way he said it. His confident, take-no-prisoners approach to, not only the issues, but also the smarmy, snarky press dweebs showed leadership by example that set exactly the right tone for the battles ahead.
An excellent showing from someone I’d written off.
Huntsman I almost felt sorry for. He seemed Barney Fife nervous.
In these dog and pony shows, I think winning is usually defined as the number of minds changed in your typical mushy moderate Frank Luntz focus group, not by who made the most sensible and persuasive presentation.
This being the case, it is entirely possible for the mush heads to come out on top. Hell, we nominated one in 2008!
Who cares?
I see several mentions of Newt. He always was a good talker, but he has proved over the years that his talk doesn’t mean a damned thing.
He’s an establishment stooge, a Dede Scozzafava lover.
Many years ago, clinton leaned on him, and he fell over.
11th Commandment.
He certainly is not follower of the Christ.
This guy needs to go !
Gingrich “won” hands down. Too bad his character is so flawed.
The Global Warming scam will economically destroy the United States if we abide by its goals. As long as Newt buys into this scam he will not get my vote.
Newt is politically astute and one hell of an intellect. Newt is a scientific moron.
Rick Perry won by overshadowing the entire crowd.
“The Global Warming scam will economically destroy the United States if we abide by its goals.”
Yep. Automatic disqualifier for Newt and Romney for believing this crud.
