That’s sort of a start.
If you really want to find out, some night, before you go to bed, do the following:
Turn off your water heater
Turn OFF any and all gas appliances
Then go and hit your main power switch.
When you wake up in the cold and dark next morning, do you even have a flashlight near your bed?
I’m not pickin on ya, but livin in the northwest with ALOT of huge Doug firs around me, I lose power four or five times a year, so it takes some adapting and getting ready.
Just sayin!
Agreed!
The NW insanity of not burying power lines - so that Doug firs with their shallow roots and 150’ height can blow over every time the wind blows, and take the power out for up to several weeks - has helped my prepper focus immensely. Those prolonged drills, especially when also snowed in due to shitty road clearing, are wonderful opportunities to get it right.
The author of this article comes across as a wee bit clueless, and certainly late to the party.
I understand what you’re saying. I just figure if a family has 200 lbs. of food, they’ll be a lot better off than others that don’t.
I know there are tons of other things that a family would need to sustain themselves for any length of time.
As for waking up cold and dark, today was my towns’ 50th straight day of being over 100 degrees. I can’t even remember what cold feels like. lol
